The Official Smashing Pumpkins/Billy Corgan Thread

Gish was one of my favorite albums for a while when I was in high school. I loved Siamese Dream too. But beyond those and Pisces Iscariot and whatever other old singles are around - I find them pretty unlistenable. Funny story: between the years of about 1998-2001 I tried to sell my Mellon Collie CD to used record stores 3 different times (as one in a stack I was trying to sell) and it was turned down every time. My copy was in excellent condition - it was just that the record stores had too many already (one of them told me that, anyway). But I'm actually glad that I held on to it - even though I may never listen to it I still consider it the final legit SP album.

great band, german friend got me into them. love bullet, everlasting gaze, and tonight tonight.

i got a clip of them on the tonight show *or one of them american things* and they actually sound pretty good...

oh well, each performance is different., my band, first gig, not too great, next gig, awesome. :D

They weren't, though. MAYBE so to a diehard fan of the band, but not to anybody else with two ears, working nerve-endings, and a mind unclouded by blind bias. After Mellon Collie they did absolutely nothing that was good for the sustained length of a whole LP, and some of the releases were just truly terrible. Hell, even Mellon Collie runs out of steam.

Just so long as we don't get TheFutureErabrace part II I don't really mind who is in / out of the band... I mean it was all pretty much Corgan's stuff anyways...

... But I will most definitely miss Charaberlins choppy, edgy style...

Lets hope the new Smashing Pumpkins doesn't suffer too badly musically speaking...

The thing about the albums he's done since, is that they're all a different type of music... Each and every one. And i cant believe u dont take Mellon Collie seriously... Coz thats their third album... If u dont, u should be shot...
Corgan is simply THE most talented artist around... Anyone who can write Soma, Zero, Mayonnaise, BWBW, Tonight Tonight, For Martha, omg, there's too many, well, he deserves RESPECT!

BUMP

Come on Billy is phenominal and you know that you like 1979 or Bullet with Butterfly Wings or if you're really cool you like Tales of Schorched Earth.

NOW TALK

I don't like spaceboy as much..
though it has some great parts,
like that "I don't need, I don't care" part, or parts of the chorus
but to me the song builRAB up too much tension and realeases too little of it. And when it does, the melodies are a bit too sweet for my taste, too slow. And I don't really like the main guitar riff heard throughout the verses.
When I think of a suiting video (just for the music without the sung part) I'd have someone walking carefully through a forest and regularly something would make him stop, look around, but he'd never make something out, because there simply is nothing. And everytime the chorus and the strings set it I'd show a panorama of the beautiful lanRABcape around him and the forrest, all the hills and the green grass.
and that would be hell of a boring video..
Maybe I'd let the sun set near the end of the song and the person would sit in the forest crying, because he's frightend.. and the last picture would be close up of his tearful eyes.. but that could bring "too much dept" into the video.

whatever, other than that, AWESOME album
therefore I'd give it 9.7/10 :)

Melon collie is one of the worst albums i`ve ever heard.

The Smashing Pumpkins were one of my favourite banRAB until that turd of an album dropped.

It`s just a mish mash of half ideas in urgent need of a good mixing to make it a single album. And even then it still wouldn`t be as good as the first 2.

Yeah, your opinion is seconded. Jimmy Charaberlin has always been a fav. drummer of mine. Billy Coragn is going to do what he always does, no matter who is in the band. Thats what has been their poison they last few outings. Noone has creative input over Corgan. As a fellow musician, I understand why most people would be frustrated by this, I mean if you have an idea he likes, he may use it. But he will get the credit, thats just how it is. Unfortunately, I don't think Corgan will ever get it and hurable himself. I mean realise that he hasn't made a good piece of music since the first breakup. Coincidence? I think not.

Adore is great. Some of the best songwriting Billy has done. Some of my favorites off it are "For Martha," "Shame," "Blank Page," and "Behold! The Nightmare." I also love "Annie-Dog," I don't understand all of the hate that song gets.
