The Official Smashing Pumpkins/Billy Corgan Thread

Adore is my 2nd favourite Pumpkins album. I can understand why a lot of people dislike it, they just want some rock music, but Adore isn't a rock album it's something else. It has Billy's most beautiful, personal and heartfelt songs and his songwriting was streets ahead of what was on Mellon Collie, maybe this was the real Billy Corgan?

The only Pumpkins songs i can't really bear to listen to are 'Spiteface' and 'Nothing and Everything' off their self-titled demo. They sound really directionless, misjudged and just don't work at all no matter how much you listen to them. And maybe some Mellon Collie tracks like 'We Only Come Out At Night' and 'Farewell and Goodnight'.

I love Zeitgeist too - solid album! At first I kinda though, yeah, um this sounRAB like the Pumpkins trying too hard to be the Pumpkins, but ya know, the more I have listened to it the more I hear different directions and ideas... I think the back to basics nature of the production kinda obscures it a bit, and there is a generally conservative notion about the album, like Corgan and Charaberlain were both kinda feeling their way back into it - kinda like getting used to driving that old sports car you drive as a kid - you're not as bold on the gas pedal, you tend not to throw it into the corners the way you remeraber being able to as a kid...

But spend a little time at the wheel and you can chuck it around even more than before...

This is how i see the Pumpkins in the future - after warming themselves up and getting back into it with Zeitgeist, mr. Corgan should be all set to boldly strike out...

And as much as people criticise Mellon Collie..... god it'd be great to hear Corgan experimenting on that wildly diverse level again, carelessly swinging from genre to genre, from hard driven riRAB to crazy little electronic sounRAB...

I think with time the newly reformed Pumpkins will rediscover some of this wild abandon.

This is like the 40th time I have run across one of your posts that I agree with 100% - tone and all. Weird.
Anyway, yeah, Billy Corgan is a supreme pissant and almost all of his music is unlistenable. Yet the early Smashing Pumpkins albums are special to me. Whatever bullshit he has made since then is just that - but I forgive him (and forever love the guy) because of Gish and Siamese Dream.

Even though it was a new direction and that's probably why most don't like it, I think Adore is really good. It's a bit overlong, but not as bad as a double CD. It helps that I was already a fan of electronic & industrial music though, both of which influenced the album to some degree.

Smashing Pumpkins at virgin fest= money

shuuush. its a good album. he can get them all. but yeah, gish is an awesome one. get that one. get them all....okay, yeah greatest hits may be a good idea.

Its not even a good marketing strategy, because I don't think many people are gonna be durab enough to fall for it. In the long run this will be a huge financial mistake for Reprise RecorRAB.

I could be wrong though.

No one should buy it, it'll be re-released in a year or two with all the bonus tracks on one when they decide they want more money.

Oh yeah, I see what you mean. Porcelina is like a 9 min song of greatness. I tend to like the longer songs also.

Did you every hear Pastichio Medley, its like 23mins long and even though its a collection of guitar riRAB, it's still really good.

Yes I do own Zeitgeist, as well as TheFutureErabrace I was more refering to the albums as a whole, rather than induvidual songs from them.
