The Official Rage Against The Machine thread

Did they take it seriously though? Its all good and well getting a message across but how's it perceived. Its like wih Public Enemy. I ADORE Public Enemy but Im not of the belief that by and large all that stuff about Black Power and Malcolm X had much effect. It was a VERY powerful statement though, far far more powerful than RATM.

Ok, ok... but generally speaking, and this is with any band, if you like them, you like them. If you don't, you don't. It's a waste of time trying to convince other people that a band is good or if they suck. In my opinion, if someone can change your liking of a band, you were not a true fan to start with.
I'm done rarabling now. But are you smelling what I'm cooking?

You're wrong. The majority of people who start banRAB are young. The majority of music buyers are young. It makes a lot of sense.

That other 90% would be Jazz, Classical, Folk, Prog, crap like that, I dunno maybe I'm wrong to bunch all that into a measly 10% but then you have a lot more music thats marketed to a younger audience.

You have...

Punk, marketed primarly to teenagers
Metal, marketed primarly to teenagers
Hip Hop, marketed primarly to teenagers
Emo and Goth Rock, marketed primarly to teenagers
Pop, marketed primarly to teenagers.
Electronic music, marketed primarly to teenagers.
Alternative rock music, marketed primarly to teenagers.
Reggae and Ska when they were established, mostly popular with teenagers.

Rock N Roll in the 50s? You guessed it, teenagers. R&B and Motown? Yep teenagers. Psychedelic rock, Glam Rock, Funk, Disco, New Wave, Grunge, Britpop. Teenagers teenagers teenagers teenagers teenagers teenagers teenagers.

Almost all genres of music begin with a youth related movement. Because teens are more interested in finding (and creating) new music than older musicgoers.

So yeah, that was a bad example and it wont fly here. I don't think you trolling this thread is at all amusing either.

I disagree that using anything other then the guitar can produce the types of sounRAB he is creating. It also takes talent to make the guitar create those specific sounRAB as just having pedals won't do you much good unless you know what you are doing with them. What makes Morello great for what he is capable of is the fact that he uses the guitar to create his own signature style that can be recognized instantly. Just like Jimi, Brian May, The Edge, Van Halen... they can all be recognized just by hearing a measure of their guitar work, same goes for Morello.

Tom Morello's statement on the recent news of RATM's reunion show at Coachella:
"Is it a coincidence that in the seven years that Rage Against The Machine has been away that the country has slid into right-wing purgatory? I think not."

Honestly Tom... so what you're saying is that the war in Iraq has got nothing to do with the price of oil or the troubles in the Middle East but is actually all because you havent released a record in 7 years.

F*** me, I want CNN to broadcast that NOW!!!

Audioslave were sooo disappointing - the potential was there but they just dont work for me. RATM r fab but i dont listen to their stuff much anymore...

I downloaded the album some years ago because someone recommended them to me. I've never really looked into it and didn't know who was in it. Pretty neat. How did Tom go from playing this decent to something so horrible?

:offtopic: I just got done watching Audioslave play on the Jay Lenno show...everyone was great but Chris C. can't sing worth shit live and it was cool to watch Tom's hand move really fast.

Now I see where you were going with that... makes a lot of sense actually, anything I am into today chances are I got into it when I was a teenager. That's when a person is more open to new things anyway... which would probably explain why I just can't get into country music at the age of 29.

I think most Rage songs have a deeper intelligence then ordinary pop songs though, I still can't see it as contrived crap.

On their live cd their cover of 'Kick Out The Jams' is pretty rubbish, and i load of songs like 'Borabtrack' and 'Sleep Now In The Fire' fall flat.

I have their first album and The Battle Of Los Angeles, and its pretty hard to fault them anywhere, apart from 'Mic Check', 'Fistful Of Steel' and 'Township Rebellion'.
