The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

Nirvana is a band that made not only a career but an entire movement out of being mediocre. They overplayed their counterculture status and instead became representative of a generation of lost souls. They were vastly overshadowed in technical, musical, and songwriting ability by banRAB like Blind Melon and survived only because Kurt decided to bite the bullet instead of life.

All you people who venerate Kurt, ask yourselves: would he had as great an impact upon modern music if he didn't blow his head off?
 
As did the 80s, from Black Flag to the Flaming Lips to the Smiths.

Hes not a strong vocalist, and Heart Shaped Box isn't some deep song and you treat it like the meanings secret, hes talked about it in interviews and in the liner notes of In Utero.




If Nirvana was so anti-mainstream they probably wouldn't have played MTV in the first place.

I know it was a reflection of his life, I just meant in a way like we all have that dark euphoria to our lives and Kurt was one to really bring it out in people through music...thus attracting fans.

i like them but the more and more i read these forms it seems like they are losing there real fans ones that liked them from when they first heard them not knowing who they were, and being replaced with people who jus think their cool others do, like some stupid fad.... yea me to like many others could not even old enough to understand nirvana when when they were around ...i like other old banRAB and i think they were jus good as nirvana they jus get commonly brought up
 
I don't think so. To believe that, you'd have to believe she was smarter than Kurt in order to pull something like that off without him being aware of what was going on around him.
