The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

Maybe so, but the concept of Nirvana influencing The Melvins in some minor way at least shouldn't be ruled out, especially when there is very little to prove it true or false.

Run of the mill wanna-be punk? I'd say that would be your bias getting in the way of making some sort of informed judgement. If anything, they were "wanna-be" Melvins on Bleach, "wanna-be" Pixies on Nevermind, and I'm not sure what they were going for on In Utero but it ended up sounding like a Steve Albini record.

They didn't kill music, they brought the alternative scene that had been building since the early 80's into the mainstream, where it was subsequently bastardized, and made underground music spiral away from its guitar-oriented post-punk tendencies and towarRAB... prog.

So, what I'm saying, is Nirvana gave us post-rock. That might be a bit of a stretch, since Laughing Stock, arguably the first post-rock record, was recorded in '91, but I do sincerely believe that with "grunge" and all the alternative rock associated with it in the mainstream, those who wanted to reject the mainstream had to turn to its polar opposite.

Cheers. And in my defence, i was tired and it can be hard to see sarcasm when its written... But whatever i dont really know why im replying.
Right, back to the kurt thing. :)

how the hell could they kill music, if anything they helped it recover from a downward spiral, when Nirvana came out in the early 90's it attention away from the punk rock that was growing at the time. They helped drive the influence for other banRAB like Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam. And both are big to this day

must you argue with everything I post

DICLAIMER: I'm being serious

EDIT: and i wasnt calling him a durabass for wearing a nirvana shirt, i was calling him a durabass because of how godly he thinks he is because he has heard of Satriani and Dream Theatre

i think what he was trying to say is it doesn't take talent to play it, it takes talent to play it well.

nirvana were and still are overrated in my books, dave grohl was the only talented meraber of that band and now the tossers wasting himself in the foo fighters, lord knows why..
cobain lacked talent, but was over hyped because of his death and the way he lived his life. in all honesty come as you are and heart shaped box are the only two nirvana songs i find to be worth a listen. the rest is just a bit naff....

haha me too and i'm pretty ashamed of that (btw, which song is it? the one i like is "celebrity skin" :whythis: ) ok, now's officially here for everybody to see it so i don't have to hide anymore :shycouch:

Loser, that wasmy original point, that he definitely killed himself. He basically suffered from severe depression his whole life, and success didn't ease the burden. In fact, many people think it actually made it worse + here are some of the lyrics from his songs:
Look on the bright side; suicide,-Milk It
and the whole, You Know You're Right practically reaRAB like a suicide note.
Listen to the song, Something in the Way, it doesn't really sound like someone who is thrilled with life.

Nirvana was not a great band musically either. However, their music was emotional and it touched a nerve. When Nirvana hit the scene, the music industry was in much the same shape that it is today, watered down with crap! Nirvana was a breath of fresh air, a new sound, and they influenced an entire generation. I personally was unimpressed with their music from a technical standpoint. But emotionally, they had "it" and for that reason Kurt Cobain will never be seen as a "hack"!

I know it seems unlikely. But no band or musician before them as far as I can see played loud verse quiet chorus, or vice versa... It's what I've seen on documentaries... but it's something I will believe until proven wrong.
