The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

People have been on the Nirvana "bandwagon" for over a decade a now. It's not a "lately" occurence, they didn't just get popular out of nowhere. By the way, you don't have to be a certain age to appreciate music from the past (and ten years ago in music is not that long ago at all). Ever since Kurt's death, I've heard nothing but teen obsession and typical "smells like teen spirit" blah blah blah. I think it's time to move on, and find new music to talk about

yes, yes you do.

I like Nirvana...I have Nevermind and the From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah...
Smells like teen spirit will always be one of my favourite songs.

they have some similarities. But yeah, i suppose "pop punk" might not be fitting.

Lets just leave it at grunge already, since nothing else fits well :-/

I'm sorry, I should have made the original post more neutral. I dont have specific feelings about nirvana, i just wanted to incite discussion and see what the general opinion is here.

Okay, first of all Nirvana never claimed to be the first grunge band. I don't know many people who do. Second, Nirvana brought grunge into mainstreem, a significant blow to the Bubble Gum pop, Hair Metal, Arena Rock and dance pop that dominated back then. Although pop music has (in the end) won the war, Nirvana (helped) get us out of the crazy sounRAB of the 80's.

Thirdly, not many of the fans of the original grunge sound like Nickelback or post-grunge of any kind (I know I sure don't!).

Last, Cobain had a unique voice all his own. Compared to many artist of today, he was extremely unique. His lyrics are often cryptic, so boneheaRAB can't understand them (Something he himself admitted in the song "In Bloom").

So don't you go downing my favorite band like that!

Yeah, but still hair metal was on its way out. You can't carry on a self-destructive attitude for a decade. I think Nirvana are given too much credit with 'killing' hair metal. Anyway saying Nirvana killed 80s music is ridiculous, didn't Use Your Illusion come out in the 90s?

I misread your post actually. Anyway, I know several post-grunge fans who are fans of grunge, and vice versa. Except for the grunge elitists most like both because they sound the same, one just came later.

Yeah Nirvana gets played to death here where I live, even on the classic rock stations.

when i go to rab from school, almost everyone elseis on too, for example....me, enjoime9, moses, and claymansteve all have a class together, if, in that class we are able to use the comps. everyone is on

Your taste in music is the people that think they are awesome because they listen to a wide variety of music. I know this because almost all the music you listen to is or is similar to what I listen to.

Yes he did. He is quoted as saying he made the band to blend the aggression and melody. He was a huge beatles fan, they were his favourate band. Doofus.

....as well as the fact that we are discussing a heroin addict. Poking himself with needles played a big part in why he is no longer here. Being on a magazine cover was the least of his problems.

I don't think they really meant we can't like him, but that talking about him because he's dead is 'disrespectful' or something. Whatever. LYK FLIPPIN RITE!! SPAM PUNX UNITE!!1
