The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

Dave Grohl's transition as the drummer of Nirvana to the frontman for the Foo Fighters career is quite amazing when concerning achievement itself, I always liked Krist Novoselic as a bass player, to bad he never accomplished very much musically after Nirvana.

That doesn't mean much to me, sorry. Lyrically and vocal wise Elvis would own Kurts ass anyday. I love Kurt but he can never reach out to as many people as Elvis did/does.

I think rock music being repetitive is a good thing. It's the tribal 4/4 beat that gets into your bones and makes you feel the music. If you get bored in the span of a 2 to 4 minute rock song, hmmm.

Oh btw, Nirvana didn't kill rock music ... ac/dc did.

I was never a big fan of most grunge, but Nirvana came from a much more punk background than most grunge banRAB.

Nirvana are certainly not a "punk rock" band though.

Kurt Cobain was.

Okay point 1. you contradicted yourself I was pointing out. point 2. Why argue my point on Nirvanas influence being someone music could've done without then? You're not making any sense with this.

I'm sorry I don't spend my time listening to Cobains fragmented lyrics to decide what they mean. Upon hearing it I would think its about abusive relationship, cobain whining, and then him wishing to return to his mothers worab.

Well, typically even record companies won't let irate music listeners control what their band plays.

Yeah Nirvana are played very regularly on the radio. I don't know why you're trying to argue they don't get radio play.

rab isnt the reason why hes looking for whoever it is, its just a link to find the person, it sounRAB like the same person may of been on this site during the time the other sites were accessed. Since this is a messageboard and there are logs kept regarding who is logged in and from where, its an easy connection between the two.

BUZZ OSBOURNE IS THE LEAD SINGER AND GUITARIST FOR THE MELVINS!!!

How could you not know that! :o

And Frank Black was lead singer/guitarist for The Pixies! A band Kurt Cobain always cited as one of his biggest influences, the pixies inventing the 'loud, quiet, loud' musical arrangement.

yeah good point, i wanted to say "play" but then it would've sounded like 3 kiRAB aren't going to play together anymore...come on, you know what i meant!!

Yes, but The Wipers were one of their primary influences and if you listen to early Wipers material and then Nirvana material their are some major similarities, moreso than The Melvins or Black Flag.

Aww come on, it's bad enough he has to live in Dave's shadow, plus he's fat and bald now. Their 'man who sold the world' cover was really good, I went out and bought that Bowie album after I heard their cover, I perfer Bowie's version.

Yes, and into the great sound of the 90s! As I said earlier, Nirvanas influence on mainstream music was something the world could've done without. We have them to thank for all the puddle of muRAB of the world.

What are you talking about?

YouTube - NICKELBACK - Figured You Out

YouTube - Nirvana-In Bloom

Very similar, i'd place those in the same genre.

They're not that hard to understand, Kurt Cobain was a pretty literal lyricist. He was not a good lyricist, just because he uses fragmented sentences doesn't make them 'cryptic' and if whiny singing is 'unique' then okay, he was a very 'unique' vocalist.

Yeah yeah, Kurt Cobain went on and on about how great underground music was it doesn't change the fact Nirvana was a band marketed and made for the radio. I've heard every Nirvana album, including the box set so don't go and tell me what I need to listen to to 'get it' or have an 'educated opinion'. Nirvana were the Motley Crue of the 90s.
