The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

But it wasn't much of a point, The Melvins and Nirvana were two banRAB that had a good deal of mutual respect for another, while I highly doubt Pink Floyd would ever want to associate themselves with someone like The Foo Fighters, it's not the best comparison you could have made.

well now you just look silly, you started a thread telling people to post their opinions ( agree, disagree) and now youre trying to make them think otherwise (persuade) tsk, tsk, tsk

Green River and Soundgarden r the "forefathers" of grunge no doubt about it. As junior saint said kurt cobain pushed grunge forward and made it popular. But i wouldn't say he was the saviour because was never dying in nirvana's infancy.

i think that he killed himself ... or that he had help ...but i think we can;t admitt to it because it was such a great loss... :( :( :( ...soo intelligent wut he could have taught us through the years if he was still alive

I never meant that in an elitist way, such as the previous poster, but I would argue that seeing as how both of those banRAB had a strong influence on Nirvana, Kurt in particular, and the fact that grunge in general grew from the indie scene of the 80s, that those banRAB among others like Sonic Youth and Husker Du would have more to do with appreciating Nirvana than Dream Theater or Satriani, who really fall more into the progressive self-indulgent rock category that punk, and in turn the genres that grew out of it like indie and grunge, was against.

That has got to be the longest and most convoluted sentence I've ever written. It's too late for this ****.

Its nice to know that you recognize the fact that boo boo and I can actually have a good discussion about music. Something you seem incapable of doing.

see, this is where you get stupid. The point I made clearly went over your head and then some.

1- I like Nirvana, always have, but Cobain was a hack.
2- The point is that one can be ahack and still be very influential.
3- KISS may be **** musicains, but their influence can't be denied.
4- a virtuoso may be a virtuoso, but all too often he's an unknown one.How good you are has sqaut to do with how influential you are. You tried dis-crediting KISSes influence by saying they were crap players. I say crap players can still be influential - look at Cobain - a household name.
look at Lenny Breau - an unknown virtuoso.

Nah, it means Indie dosen't exist, and yet it still manages to suck Horse c*ck.

Granted any band on a small label is technically Indie, so Indie is just a term used by people like you to discribe the really awful banRAB you listen to, I hope to see the day when the Indie fad dies a long and painful but much warranted death.

Okay, for one hes dead so all that shold be in past tense ;D. I see your point, but I disagree with it. Making music is funner then covering it, and if nirvana wants to sound a paticular way then its fine. Tons of other banRAB sound like other banRAB.

^That is probably so true, Snickers.
Who cares where they would've been? They made good songs while they were around. And to people that think Cobain stood for something (I dunno if anyone does, can't be bothered to back read) Kurt didn't want to stand for anything, that was his whole point. Their was no deeper side to Nirvana, maybe to Kurt, but they were just teen angst produced music. Connect with that, not their image. I had to say that, coz their are people that like Nirvana just coz it's cool to, and it bugs me.
