The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

Pretty much everything does.. I've never seen that one, I tend to stick with readin the books, for some reason I trust them more than the documentaries which makes no sense. But yeah, she's had her fair share of allegations thrown at her, there must be some reasoning behind it..

Greatness is subjective my friend, tell me why springsteen is so great, I personaly dont like his music at all but then again i dont go to his forums saying he sucks ass and calling all his fans pussys and queers, because i still respect his fans and the mans importance to music...Nirvana influenced countless banRAB and inspired a lot of people to start their own banRAB, they reached more people than any neo classical swedish speed metal band ever could. Also bashing the man because he(suposedly)killed himself is low. Besides, theres a lot of evidence that proves otherwise, the suicide letter features 2 different writing styles, which suggests that the second half of the letter was finished by someone else, cobain suposedly was going to retire years earlier before changing his mind, and the first half of that letter could have been a old retirement letter that was saved by courtney, and she wrote the second half to make it appear like a suicide letter. The gun he suposedly used had no fingerprints, someone had to whipe them off, and autopsy reports proved that cobain had tons of herion injected into his system, 3 TIMES THE LETHAL DOSE, he would have been uncapable of pulling the trigger, he would have been already dead or unconcious...Anyway cobain was planning on leaving courtney and taking full custody of frances, he made a bank account which holRAB most of his savings, courtney was gonna be left out of his will completely and it would have all gone to frances, so she clearly had a motive. He had so many things planned, not just for his daughter but his music as well, he had ideas of incorperating horn sections into his music among other things, Im not saying he didnt kill himself, but there is so much that proves it could have been murder. Anyway as for you buddy, learn to respect others opinions, here's a ball and paddle, go play outside and leave the grown ups alone.

Kurt knew what he was doing. His freinRAB, like Tobi Vail, all thought he was a sell-out for signign with Geffen, and Kurt coiuld barely face them, after he spent years touting the punk rock ethic with and around them for so long, "Ill never sign with a major, thats so sell-out!" that was so un-punk rock.

when Kurt signed to a major, he lost every freind in the punk rock community he hung with. It was a major no - no thing to do, and he did it anyway.

Sure he sold out.

ok...i'm gonna try...
so...some say that Nirvana wouldn't have had the fame they have today if it wasn't for Kurt's death...what do you think? would you say it was like a conspiracy or something? (if this is really really stupid, don't blame me, ok? i was just trying to help..)

Well, I like Nirvana, I like Kurt. I'm not sure i agree totally with whats written above, but i don't think he shot himself. I've read his book, well, a book that was written about him, and he did seem a bit 'messed up' but he wrote such good songs, and well, yeah, people have different opinions, but his history obviously helped him write what he did.

I dont think i just made any sense.

yeah, it was definitely the success that did him in......
the only thing I find weird is that I'm pretty sure he dreamed of being the biggest rock star in the world when he was a kid,so you'd think he would be more primed for it.

I think it's interesting what his death has done to the world of rock. You will notice that there were several banRAB come out of that area, with the same musical style, and make very good music, with great success to go along with it, right about that time.
Now, it seems like everyone wants to not be the next Nirvana. I mean, everyone wants to be a huge success, celebrity not always withstanding.
Soundgarden came out with SuperUnknown in 1994, and they were supposed to become the biggest band in the world, and replace Nirvana. It didn't happen, because I think Chris Cornell and the band, they didn't want to tour much, or promote the album very much. They accepted a role of just kind of fading from the limelight, although they did have a few hit singles on that record.
Since Cobain's death, no band in rock has really been able to catch everyone's attention in a take over the world/genre sense. Radiohead are close, but they're so closed off, and sometimes I think that their attempt to be so un-mainstream/popular, it might hold back their music a little bit. Tool is another close band; again they're just behind close doors, and big expectations kind of killed their last album.
So in summary, I think everyone wants to be Kurt Cobain, but no one wants to be Kurt Cobain at the same time, particularly the latter.

If Cobain hadn't died Nirvana would have been played out by their already increasing popularity on MTV and eventually faded from superstardom, Cobain would have came back ten years later to be on Dancing With the Stars, and Grohl would have still been in Foo Fighters.
Krist try to rise to fame again with Cobain but no one would accept them.

However, this would never be possible anyway, because Courtney would have killed him even if he didn't commit suicide.

Voila, different scenario.
