The Official "Music Was So Much Better in the Glorious Days of Yore" Thread

LOL. It's pretty straight up garage rock, I wouldn't call it noise. And for the record, based on your comments in another thread, I'm much more of an old person than you are, at least chronologically. ;)

Garage Rock happened in the 60's* and Punk was a genre that started in the 70's, and Garbage was an Alternative Rock band in the 90's.

It seems like you have this hostile attitude towarRAB good music.

I was never really too crazy about Machina. The first half of the album is great but it just tenRAB to drag towarRAB the end. But Stand Inside Your Love and I Of The Mourning are classic SP. Machina II is probably better but the sound quality of mine is poor.

It's like eating popcorn at a movie, music now is like when we get the end of the pop corn bucket that has nothing left but the tiny bits, half popped pop corn and colonels of popcorn. And we think back to when we had the fluffy pop corn - that was the good stuff, but instead of few minutes, musically it's a few years maybe a few decades.

I believe music back then was just as good then as it is now. I'm not like some who totally dismisses the past, or totally don't like anything about Rock in it's entirety - both are something I don't understand. So I think that should be a plus. But to say was music so much better then now, I would that is true for everything except Indie and Alternative Rock. Alternative Rock now is just as good, (sometimes better, sometime worse) then RnR in the 50's to post-Grunge in the 90's and all the countless sub-genres in between.

Where I reminisce of the past is with Country and R&B. R&B drastically changed, it's much different today then say in the beginning like when the Ink Spots first started. Modern Country is vastly different then say when it was called "Country and Western" and play at the Grand Ol' Opry. When it comes to other genres like R&B and Country what I like is in the past the majority of it was in the 60's and 70's. Then afterwarRAB the artist I like are few and far between.

I myself am well aware of my own distaste for metal. I think some things just really aren't for everyone, and that's perfectly fine. I used to bash metal, and call it crap, but I've come to realize that that is a complete waste of my life. I understand that within the confines of metal, there are good and bad banRAB, just like every other genre, and when metal comes up as a conversation piece, I keep that in mind before I make myself look like a prick.

If you are ever inspired to listen to Machina again, break it up into 2 halves. The first time I tried it, I realized the second half has material just as strong as the first, it just gets bogged down since the album is so long.

I also like Machina II a bit better, too...maybe one day we will see a mastered release.

Everyone bold I don't like, the others - I either haven't heard their music, or simply haven't heard of them.

A lot them banRAB mentioned are experimental, "art rock", rap, synth/electronic banRAB etc.

Either we have different tastes, or your music taste is more eclectic than mine, seems like these days people are trying to make experimental art rock crap, I just don't buy it all, but to be fair there are a few in your list I've never even heard of.

Good grief. In this very thread I referred to Guns n Roses and Van Halen as banRAB that I love. Do you really think I give a shit about my "status with the record shop crowd"? I had no idea everyone was required to have a hard on for Billy Corgan and Chris Cornell or else be subject to personal insults. SounRAB kind of... elitist.
