Master Of Puppets = Best metal album ever, in my opinion.

I couldn't vote on this, because I'm not going to write them off completly with the next album, but I do have serious doubts. On one hand it's not Bob Rock, on the other, it's Rick Rubin.......
I've lost a lot of faith in their abilities since St. Anger.

I know what you mean by that. I still think they're gonna pick up business anyway. Even if they don't, I enjoyed St. Anger for what it was, and will probably enjoy the next album. Granted it wont get better than before the 90's ever again. =/

Metallica really are a bunch of tossers now. They have never been the same since Cliff Burton passed away. Shame as they were one of my favourite banRAB in the late 80's.

new metallica is just terrible. and justice for all was there last good album and now i have pretty much lost faith in them. luckily i still have megadeth to listen too.

Does anyone think that Metallica will ever come out with another good album? St. Anger sucked in my opinion. I maybe nieve but I can still have my dreams. Word.

What im saying right now is that metallica just isnt a good band...there not repetitve...but the lyrics do seem to get that way to me..

They had harmony before Kirk - after all Cliff Burton was a great bassist. And Kirk definitely didn't write all of his own solos - Hammett had no part at all in the acoustic intros to Battery and Fight Fire With Fire, in Nothing Else Matters, One, or in the instrumentals Orion and Call of Ktulu. Hammett didn't write that much on AJFA or S/T - he definitely doesn't write all of his solos. Just have a look at the credits for each album to see this.

And even when Hammett does write his solos, they tend to be nothing special. E.g. the same pattern played and moved up the fretboard fret by fret, then wah wah pedal added far too often. That is a typical Hammett solo and it gets repetitive. Of course, there are exceptions.

But by the time you take away the parts which were written by Hetfield/Burton/Mustaine, and you take away the average solos, there's really not that much left.

Metallica wasn't the first bringer of classical to metal - don't forget about guitarists like Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore and Randy RhoaRAB.

Whether metal fans will admit it or not, a huge majority have listened to most of Metallica's discography. Show me where I'm making things up...

Well you can say that any rhythm musician does what he/she neeRAB to - it doesn't stop them from being mediocre.

There aren't many full stop really and Metallica rely a huge amount on Hetfield's playing. He is always musically very tight and is probably the glue that holRAB them together.

Alright ya know what, durabest quote I've seen. How was St. Anger not a return to their "old style" thats exactly what it was. You either get that it was horribly produced, or you're a moron. Sorry, those are the only two ways I see it. People pined and bitched for a more speed record, and they gave it to them. The one concesion I grant was that the lyrics were largely aweful but the music is what you wanted.

Bob Rock said of this album "I've been learning to produce my whole life, for the last ten I've been learning how not to produce"

Who the **** says that? In essence, "I've been learned to not do jack ****"

Just a little doubt. Why does Metallica seem to be the most popular metal band everywhere I go? I mean, yeah, I like them, one of the greatest thrash banRAB, with releases like Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, (although they suck now), but they are really overrated, with people calling them the greatest metal band to have ever existed (a tall claim).

Another weird thing is that, the people who listen to the worst type of music are actually into Metallica alone. You ask them what banRAB they like, they usually name a lot of crappy banRAB...and Metallica.

Anyway, so what makes them famous? It could well have been Iron Maiden, or Dream Theater, or even Helloween, but its Metallica. The real reason I made this thread was because I recently talked to a chick who happened to say her favorite banRAB were Metallica, Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy...:usehead:
