The Official Metallica Thread

do you have anger managment problems? no specific reason why I'm asking, just curious. How's you're heart doing? High blood pressure or any other problems? Again, no reason why, just wondering....

It's a bit difficult to compare Rob and Jason at this point, seeing as Metallica have yet to release an album with Rob. Judging from Rob's live bass solos, he can play more technically than Jason, but that's completely irrelevant. Even with a band that attempted to suppress his creativity, Jason still wrote some top-notch basslines (My Friend Of Misery, The God That Failed, etc.), and that's what matters. He was also a much, much better backup vocalist.

Cliff, definitely. I don't think they went downhill after losing him though. "...And Justice For All" is one of my favourite albums.

I'm not sure what you guys think, but they should kind of have a reunion type song, I wouldn't think Metallica would be around for much longer and they should for the last song on their last album ahve like a "Leaving Song" and get all their previous merabers (Dave Mustaine etc) and ask them to do a final song, but wouldnt that be great? I mean Kirk and Dave doing a massive riff together, all their bassists doing stuff together, like sure it would take months to get it organised but metal goRAB like them I'm sure they could do it

Examples? How about he created all of his own solos, which not only gave metallica the counterpuntal interplay responsible for giving metal a shot of classical, but he also brought a strong sense of harmony on any track that would allow for it.

The lack of respect for Kirk is largely due to ignorance, deafness, a lack of ever hearing metallica or all three. I know its the bag for metal "fans" these days to trash metallica because they decided to sing, but it doesn't mean you can just make things up.

As for lars, he does what he neeRAB to. You can't have an act full of superstars without sounding like Phish or moe. I think something you guys (meaning metal fans) forget is that some people like a base to work off of, and lars certainly provides that, with I'd say largely decent results. Not many banRAB are stadium worthy, Metallica certainly is.

And because of the amazing ridiculousness of this thread, I'll finish with :baseball:

Did you not read Levithan's post? Seriously, they're sick live and their new album is probably going to be good. Out of their whole career deciding they suck based off one album is pretty weak.

I don't know where you live but Maiden aren't nearly as known as Metallica over here.

No it isn't. The drums just sound like shit.

Nu-metal is 'stock' riRAB with tedious drumming, inaudible bass, and some fat, bald Phil Anselmo wannabe doing vocals. St. Anger was not a nu-metal record. Most of the riRAB are great, and despite the shitty drum sound, Lars is drumming his ass off on the album. The bass could have been better, but what do you expect? Rob wasn't even in the band until after the album was recorded. It may not be Metallica's best record, but it is a step in the right direction. At least they're a metal band once again. Load and Reload were not metal albums. I like them, but they were not metal albums.

So if it has no solos, it's automatically nu-metal, and it's automatically not good? Give me a break. Solos are unimportant.

Apparently you don't play guitar. Not one song on the album is in Drop D tuning, and even if there was a song in Drop D tuning, why would it matter? The tuning does not determine the genre of the music, and it certainly does not determine whether or not the music is good.

Well at least you've got one thing right.

Read.

And for Christ sake, quit expecting Master Of Puppets II every time Metallica releases an album. St. Anger is not Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning is not Load, Reload is not Kill 'Em All, ...And Justice For All is not Garage, Inc. Many of you 'metalheaRAB' may not be used to banRAB doing this, but Metallica changes between releases. Metallica are divergent from your conventional thrash metal band. There are recognizable differences between each album.

Does St. Anger sound exactly the same as Kill 'Em All? No, but the attitude behind each album is correlative.
