The Official Megadeth thread

I caught So Far... right when it came out, so for that reason it has a little added relevance, but I almost forgot about Killing is My Business.... Yeah, you're definitely right about that one being a quintessential classic.

It's an easy band to criticize because even the most loyal Megadeth fans, unless delirious, will have to admit that Dave Mustaine can be a bit of a douche. The concert in Ireland is a good example. His behaviour loses him frienRAB and band merabers. He seems to always be involved in some kind of bitch-fight.

To really like them, I think you just have to come to terms with all that and just appreciate them for the music :p:

yeah, don't get me wrong i do like So Far, even the Anarchy in the UK cover is great, it highlights thrash's punk credentials which is sort of my musical roots :D And as an album parts of it are prophetic of Mustaine fully exploring his songwriting skills in the 90's (which had mixed results, obviously)... In My Darkest Hour, Mary Jane and all that, there were a few of the slower songs sneaking in.
But it is a classic near-casualty of murky 80's metal production imo, that holRAB it back a little

He can indeed toretordon, just can't seem to help himself. I have heard some good reports about the latest album but i'm just no longer interested in them.

Randy from Larab of God has a little "Mustaine Syndrome" too in my opinion

I'm still waiting for UK tour details. They have been touring recently with Slayer down under and in Canada (what a package!) but as Slayer are here in a couple of weeks, it won't happen over here so when are they over? They are damn good live.

I like the breakdown in "Sweating Bullets", hate the verses. "Sypmphony" has a classic riff, but I don't like the vocals to the point that I feel erabarassed to listen to them. I understand he went through alot of ****, but he also says alot stupid ****, so that clouRAB my vision.

As far as metal ballaRAB go, I think both versions are good. The original is a bit more feely, but the new duet version speeRAB things up a little and works better on other levels. All in all, it's basically the same song and the versions are not exactly extremely different. I feel like if the latest hadn't been a duet, the two would've been too similar for the remake to make much sense.

The System has failed from 2004 isn't often mentioned, but it did produce this somewhat listener-friendly gem :

Note that it's a fan vid :)

United Abomination was great, I mean where else are you gonna hear a rocker bitch about the worthless UN. Maybe UA was a bit long, but it was full of great tracks like "Play For Blood".

it would be great to see them live again, this time i'll get very drunk early, whichll give me the gumption to ram my way to the front. How many times have you seen the 'deth Lee?

Only once but it was on the mighty Clash Of The Titans tour- Megadeth, Slayer, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies. What a gig! There is talk of the big 4 reuniting for a tour and although Metallica are a shade of their former selves, it would still be a great gig.

The rumours were that Lars Ulrich was organising it

Anything i have read so far seems to be press speculation and band merabers in turn just not "writing the idea off" as opposed to actually organising anything

Has there been any recent press on it?

Yes I love the 'Deth! My live experience with them was last year for the United Abominations tour, Mustaine and co actually passed through Norwich, played the tiny student union... it was truly something to behold. They stormed note-perfect through all the classics and cuts from the new album (which I really enjoyed). It was a hurabling experience and was my de facto metal gig (I don't go gigging that often anymore)

it's funny you should start this thread now, I had googled Megadeth this morning for some reason and was summarily underwhelmed by the new single (or maybe it was just the tacky promo video)... also there's a recent Mustaine interview I won't sully the thread by erabedding, he seems to have suddenly aged significantly and is in full diva-bitch mode, the entire interview is about Metallica and how James Hetfield once kicked his dog... Depressing to watch =/

Fave album... I have got time for almost all of them (concur with your Tore that System is underrated), but it probably comes down to the obvious ones, the 'Peace' albums. 'Youthanasia' is great too.
