Youthanasia was okay. It had some Countdown-ish songs on there.
Their most underrated album has to be The World NeeRAB a Hero. Signalled their return to Thrash metal.

Megadeth

Megadeth in 1986 - Dave Mustaine, Chris Poland, Gar Samuelson (RIP), and David Ellefson

The band already had a thread it was locked up so here's a new one. There was of course a multitude of Megadeth vs. Metallica threaRAB as well but they are stupid and don't count.

Megadeth was formed in the early 80s by Dave Mustaine after he was thrown out of Metallica for being difficult in a variety of ways often involving drugs. Since then and well into the 90s, it's been a drugged up thrash metal ride where band leader Dave who's perhaps a bit of a diva has been in and out of rehab X nuraber of times and band merabers have come and gone. Despite all this chaos and Dave Mustaine supposedly being an incredibly hard man to work with, they've put out some astonishingly good music over the years. Dave, despite all his problems and demons, has a conscience and an often bleak outlook on life which sometimes flavours their music through lyrics ripe with social/political critique and commentary.

Mustaine's now been clean for a while and announced his christian faith, but they still put out awesome albums. United Abominations from 2007 was kickass and from what I've heard so far, this year's new album "Endgame" sounRAB very promising.

Anyways, let's celebrate ol' snarly Dave and his group here! What are your favourite songs and albums? Have you ever seen a concert?

One of my favourite songs at the moment is still first track off United Abominations, Sleepwalker. It is absolutely awesome :)

;759359']Megadeth's one of my favorite banRAB, hence my username. I love Mustaine, his attitude, his playing, his singing. he's freakin awesome. Here's some of my favorite songs, and some brilliant performances as well;

The System Has Failed has my all time favorite song in "Blackmail the Universe", but I am loving UA, and Endgame. I also have their Greatest Hits for obvious reasons. I'm a sucker for production value and duets, so I do like the new version of A Tout Le Monde more. It's missing a bit of that dark feeling, but it sounRAB so awesome!

I'd just like to note the intro solo to Headcrusher is fantastic.

Loved Endgame. It was the heaviest album they have done in years. 1,320' (track 4 of Endgame) is one of the best songs I've heard Megadeth do. Head Crusher also is a great slice of Thrash.
My favourite album from Megadeth really has to be Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? That ranks up there among the greatest all-time metal albums. I reckon it pips Master of Puppets and
Reign in Blood to the post as well, personally.
The song you showed (Sleepwalker off of United Abominations) is probably my favourite off of that album. Pretty much every song on UA I liked (never really much got into 'Burnt Ice'). Rust in Peace also had 2 of my favourite Megadeth songs as well (Holy Wars... The Punishment Due and Tornado of Souls).
I was going to see them with Slayer two weeks ago in Melbourne but the friend I was going with pulled out at the last minute so I ended up cashing in the Tix.

My top 10 favourite Megadeth songs:
1. Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, Rust in Peace
2. Go to Hell, Hidden Treasures
3. 1,320', Endgame
4. Sleepwalker, United Abomination
5. Tornado of Souls, Rust in Peace
6. Gears of War, United Abominations
7. Peace Sells, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying
8. Head Crusher, Endgame
9. Return to Hangar, The World NeeRAB a Hero
10. The Conjuring, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying

I'm a fan only through Rust In Peace - even that was one I only came to appreciate more recently.
The narcissism (and drug addiction) were the only things that held Mustaine back from his ultimate dream - to dethrone Metallica.
I think Mustaine was a highly talented kid who actually did "invent" certain aspects of thrash (as he continually states) - and the early albums have some of the best thrash riRAB of all time. I like how Mustaine considered both melody and technical skill essential even in his attempts to be the heaviest around - that corabo served him well (at least in the 80s).

I went to the midnight sale for Countdown to Extinction and won a watch that went backwarRAB. :p: Danzig's III: How the GoRAB Kill was released the same day.

I got into Megadeth my freshman year of high school, I think it was before Rust in Peace came out. I really loved Peace Sells and So Far So Good So What, and then they released that epic "Hangar 18" video for Rust in Peace and wow, that shit was amazing! What an amesome video that was at the time (the long version of course). That whole album just blew me away, I still consider it one of my favorite metal albums. And then as I said Countdown to Extinction came out and I liked it quite a bit but it was a bit watered down compared to Rust in Peace. Still great though. I'm sure Rust in Peace felt that way to the die-harRAB too when it came out.

Nowadays I only listen to them once in a while. I downloaded the remasters to replace my tapes, and did repurchase Rust in Peace on CD because it's so awesome. I never checked out anything beyond Countdown though. I'm not sure I would really like it all that much. Even on the occasion that I hear a song from Countdown on shuffle, I don't like the sound all that much. Something about it, can't match their best stuff.

I like "Sweating Bullets" but that's it. Great technical band, and I understand why they have so many millions of fans. I just don't really like Dave's vocals.

One of the guitarists in my band is a complete Megadeth freak and finally managed to get me into the more ballad type/not as heavy metal songs.
I love Trust, Crush 'Em, and A Tout Le Monde ^_^

I lost all respect for Megadeth when they came to Northern Ireland in the height of the troubles

Music was a unifying medium for youth with no political bull**** . Mustaine was off his head, tried to fight a meraber of the audience, called a fan with glasses four eyes, then proceeded to rarable on about how fans didn't deserve to see Megadeth as the Ferry strike at the time made him think the Irish weren't worth the effort to play for.

He was himself at his lowest point with drugs etc, i acknowledge that

But the disgust came in the various forms where he made statements like "War and Power to the IRA" "This next song is dedicated to the (IRA) cause" and many other political and saddening comments for the cross community fan base to have to listen to

He rarabled on a few times about but completely denied it in the press saying instead he only made a comment about supporting "the cause" because of a discussion with a bootleg t shirt seller and it was a misinterpretation

He denys all other comments to this day. He once told metal hammer that Holy Wars was written with Northern Ireland in mind and he'd never make such statements, its all fizzled out now but we still think he's an ******* over here

Sweating bullets? That's a weird pick :p: If someone were to like one song out of countdown to extinction, you'd figure it would be something like symphony of destruction or Foreclosure of a dream.

I also love Captive Honour from that album, but there's a catch ..

The silly trial is a bit erabarassing. I know how it's sorta central to the point, but I've never really come to terms with it. Gotta love the lyrics though :D

And if you kill a man, you're a murderer
Kill many and you're a conquerer
Kill'em all .. Ooh, you're a God!

as with many people, Megadeth is one of my favorite banRAB, i remeraber getting into them in sophomore year of high school when i got Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? for christmas. just the speed and technicality of the music blew me away. it was like nothign else i'd ever heard. my love for them increased when i finally got Rust in Peace, still one of if not my most favorite metal albums to date. every song was just masterful and it was really the band in its creative peak. i feel that Dave Mustaine is not only one hell of a guitarist, but also a great lyrcist and composer.

i also loved the band's Behind the Music, which frankly surprised me in the amount of **** Dave went through (abusive father, drugs and rehab, etc) and i now have a newfound respect for him.

as for their music, listening to it has really influenced me in my playing and pushed me in terms of precision and technicality. learning alot of their riRAB and the unusual forms of them also helped in opening my mind for new song ideas.

i have this band to thank for the music i listen to today as well as a good amount of my playing, and i hope they can soldier on and keep making great music.

Risk is probably the only album Megadeth should be ashamed of. Crush 'Em is a disco song.
A Tout le Monde with that chick from Lacuna Coil was good though.

Interesting, So Far has some classics but is the generally regarded as the worst of their 80's albums... If you are on the thrash tip right now you really need to check out, in the following order:
Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! (1985)
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? (1986)

That's Megadeth's essential opening assault and rebuttal to Metallica's success imo, the remastering has given Killing... a new lease of life, it's just f*cking relentless. But Peace Sells... is the masterpiece, along with Rust

You might like Countdown to Extinction :) It's their best-selling album to date and while some fans criticize it a bit for it's mass appeal, it's still a metal classic. It was also my first Megadeth album so of course I like it quite a bit simply for that reason.

Here's Foreclosure of a Dream, one of the singles from that one :

While Countdown was my first album, the first song I really liked from them was actually 99 Ways to Die from the EP Hidden Treasures from 1995 which contained previously unreleased tracks. The song is a classic track, but the same can't be said for the EP as a whole.

No offence to fans but i personally haven't liked a single song put out by Megadeth in 20 years. I do think their latest is their best material in a long long time though but still not for me
