Whatever. Serenity got great reviews and the fanbase knew the movie was coming. It's simply clear that the fanbase wasn't as large as Universal thought to make the movie a huge hit.

Did the movie draw in many besides the Firefly faithful? Probably not.

The mistake was making a big budget Firefly movie as a studio tentpole and releasing it in the typical dumping ground that is Septeraber where movies usually don't make big money. The demand for a big budget Firefly movie wasn't there.

Serenity/Firefly really has nothing to do with Bebop though and besides a couple similarities and common elements they are nothing alike. Serenity/Firefly never went as far or as brutal as Bebop.
 
Yeah and there some differences going from a comic book to a movie, so what? Its an adaption, not a literal translation, which is impossible.



Here's a hint, the vast majority of people in America don't give a flying fig about anime, so animation isn't good enough to have mass appeal, because most people don't care about it, unless its made by Pixar. Fox is making this film because they want to make profitable film and making a film just for otakus is not profitable. The studios aren't going to care about the highly unreasonable demanRAB by a small hardcore fan base.

What about adoptions of books and comic book mini series, is V for Vendetta, Sin City or 300 a bad movie? Should not make the Watchman into a movie, because that was written by one guy and drawn by one guy, so does that make it unadaptable when they make little changes on screen? You seem to be under impression, that there comics created in a similar way ot manga. News flash there are and they are being turned into movies too. Anime and manga are not as unique as you think they are.
 
Irrelevant, it blows apart the idea that CB should not be made into a movie because it is perfect, it clearly isn't the case.

According this logic BTAS was so good, there was no reason to make Dark Knight, its not good logic.

I mean a lot of great books have made into good movies and often the book is better then the movie, does that mean they should never make books into movies?

Let me ask you this, is there any anime that you think would make a good movie?
 
With this latest trend in Hollywood, it's only a matter of time before we'll see the abomination Anime Movie be made, starring Leslie Neilsen and a bunch of Japanese stereotypes.
 
First, Steve Blum's opinion is just that - his opinion. It weighs no more or less than anyone else's as far as I'm concerned.

Second, just because Keanu Reeves is 40 something doesn't mean he'd be playing Spike at that age. This also goes for Liv Tyler being too nice for Faye (though that wasn't the roll she was nominated for). They are called "actors" for a reason. Keanu could pull off playing a world weary guy in his late 20's, IMO. Actually he probably could do it easier now then when he was actually in his late 20s, since he still looked like a teenager back then.
 
And it will be a new adaptation we'll all have to live with. But as for comparing it to adapting from a comic book, as Jacob said, Cowboy Bebop is one continuity, while many comic books have many different continuities. Also, with something that started as an anime like this, there are some movements that are just impossible in live-action, or even manga, so even comic books that are adapted into movies don't have that problem.
 
Assuming this doesn't die in preproduction like so many other live-action anime adaptations did, I'm predicting a $50 million budget, a B-list lead, and a February or March 2010 or 2011 release date. Also I predict it having a 20%-30% chace of it not being bad.
 
Alan Moore washed his hanRAB of V For Vendetta almost immediately upon seeing some early story material, and that didn't stop it from being a good movie. If the original writer's disapproval doesn't automatically sink an adaptation's chances, I don't see how a voice actor's can do it (however excellent that actor may be).

That assumes you're being serious, naturally. In this topic it's becoming increasingly difficult to tell.
 
There many comic mini series that have only one writer and one artist that have been made into movies: Sin city, 300, V for Vendetta and the upcoming Watchmen. So what's your point, what's does a manga having one artist and writer have to do with anything?

As for movements, so what? Is really the end of the world if the movements aren't all exactly like they are in the anime? Of course things aren't going translate perfectly, you can say that about anything that gets made into a movie, in real life Japanese people don't have spikey blue hair, that's the purpose of an adaption, to the adapt the spirit of the work, not a do a bow by blow translation.
 
But your whole argument on why CB should not be made into movie, is based on this opinion, that seems very much in minority, its the type of argument that just isn't convincing. Can you make a more substantive argument, on why this wouldn't work on film?
 
He was right to do so, and I totally agree with him on V For Vendetta.





Considering he's played Spike, I think it means a lot.



Keanu Reeves couldn't pull off Constantine. He can't pull off Spike Spiegel. Someone point me to something that proves he can play a character like Spike. He only does well in fairly limited roles that play to his strengths and hide his weaknesses.
