The Official Live-Action "Cowboy Bebop" News & Discussion Thread

in my opinion, the success of this movie depenRAB heavily on the roles of jet and spike!

secondary on: ed, faye, the storyline and possibly roles of julia and vicious (if they are to be included)
 
Erwin Stoff did not direct "The Matrix" or "Scanner Darkly." He got an executive producing credit for "The Matrix," but only because he was Keanu Reaves' agent. An executive producer for movies usually has no actual influence on the film itself, and can be given just for helping raise money, or if they once optioned the rights for the script.
 
Hair? Gee, no wonder people say that it's hard to please anime fans. Who the hell cares about his hair? They can have the actor wear a wig if it's absolutely necessary, but it's not. Spike's hair is not a necessary element to the story. They could make a great movie without incorporating Spike's hair into the movie.



Excellent? It was nothing but a two hour fan wank with nothing of substance in it.

It should be a trilogy

1st film - Climax with Ballad of the Fallen Angels
2nd Film - Climax with Jupiter Jazz
3rd - Climax with obviously, The Real Folk Blues

Only real bother?
How they gonna do Spike's hair!?
 
Never said you couldn't write a decent college paper on Bebop, but just because you did doesn't mean it was as difficult as other material you could have chosen or been assigned.

Provided this film doesn't simply rot in the bowels of development hell, even if it does well, it's not going to be like the anime which inspired it. It'll probably end up looking like more Firefly or something similar.

Why? For the simple fact that NO live-action movie can accurately replicate an anime, regardless of who's making it or what country it comes from. Not even live-action Japanese films can replicate anime. Anime is by its' very nature, a cartoony visual style. Elements such as Spike Spiegel's fluid movements or the very character of Ed (a gangly monkey-like girl who can type on a computer keyboard with her toes) simply can't be reproduced in live-action. So regardless of how well a Cowboy Bebop does (for all we know, it could break box office recorRAB, though I honestly don't see that happening), at its' very best, it will only reserable what it is: a Hollywood movie inspired by a Japanese cartoon.
 
I think this would make a fantastic basis for the movie.

Or, at least, it might as well. But, all joking aside, I actually think this series could make a good live action movie.
 
Can we please refrain from "lulz live film < animes" comments? It's unfair to judge all live action that way, just because adaptations of anime and video games have traditionally been awful.

An adaptation of Cowboy Bebop could be great, if handled properly. But obviously the staff in charge of this project is starting off on a very bad series of feet.

OdRAB are this is just going to be dreadfully mediocre, as opposed to downright horrible (in an Uwe Boll sense).

That being said, I call shenanigans to Jacob about how restrictive live-action film is. It's not always easy to adapt a project from one medium to another, but it can be done. The issue lies with lazy filmmakers who don't grasp what is unique about the property they're adapting.
 
If 16th century-isms were as innately familiar to you as the abundance of Western media you're likely to have grown up in, good for you. That's probably not typical. On the other hand, if it took you as much study to fully understand Bebop as it took to fully understand Shakespeare... uhh... well, yeah. I got nothin'.

Picture this guy with shaggy dark hair. (edit: ms paint to the rescue! now just picture him without the beard) I think he's talented enough to pull it off. Still, it's Fox so I don't think it's got a chance no matter who they cast.
 
Why can't it done? Plus this whole "Hollywood destroys everything attitude" is fairly pretentious, what about Iron Man and Dark Knight?

I'm not saying its a good idea to make this series into a movie, but I think you need a stronger argument to make your cases that it is completely unworkable idea. Personally I'm indifferent, so I can swayed either way.
