The Official Live-Action "Cowboy Bebop" News & Discussion Thread

Forgive me if this hasn't already been linked, but Keanu Reeves has revealed some of the basic plot-line.

I can accept having the Red Eye being a major plot-point when it was only important in one episode, but calling it the "Bebop"...wow, have they even watched the show? This is already starting off on the wrong foot.

I don't have the Keanu hate a lot of people have (hey, like Spike, when you look at the guy you feel like he's on another planet ), but what's really important is the writer and director.

When I read people saying that anime-to-LA conversions can't be done because anime has stuff that "can't be done for real," I can only conclude that people haven't watched any movies that were made after the mid-70s.

Floating ships? Uh... have people never heard of Star Wars?

Over-the-top action sequences? Uh... The Matrix? (Seriously people, it's in the first post of the thread.)

Human beings with eyes that take up fifty percent of their faces? Uh... well, you've got me there.

But of those three, I'd say that's the thing I'd be least likely to miss.

I smell a train wreck. A dangerous mix of people just familiar enough with the show mixed with hollywood script doctors who don't know a thing.

I so want this to be awesome... But I'm jadded and world savvy enough to know better than to expect any less than epic failure at this point.

Ooh rumors. If Keanu is Spike, that's just wrong. God, why does HE always get work? Spike and Jet's Excellent Adventure? Does he even know what anime is? Which other actors and actresses will be the other leaRAB just because they're famous actors and actresses? Whoever mentioned Angelina Jolie as Faye will unfortunately probably be right.

Erwin Stoff, the producer on this movie is also I believe Keanu's agent or manager. So God help us all.

I talked to Steven Blum about the movie at Con, he's not excited about it. I can't argue with Steven Blum since he plays the best Spike Spiegel and Wolverine.

Honestly, when it comes to comic book and anime movies I'd rather they cast unknowns. There are rumours floating around that Angelina Jolie will play catwoman, and I don't want that. She won't play Catwoman, she'll just play the same character she has in every film she's done.

Lets get someone for Spike who isn't instantly recognisable.

You guys complain to much.

The director, who has directed very good movies like the Matrix and A Scanner Darkly, which i happen to like very much and were good. Would you guys want "Killa" Ramsey to direct this, didnt think so.

If you compare CB with the matrix and scanner, i see it looking pretty good if done right. The top points of this film would be action, then plot/story, then charactor, the latter and the middle one are in a battle to who will be behind the action spot. I look at this as the LA version of the CB movie, just pick a spot between 2 episodes and go from there.

My concern is, who will play spike well, and jet, and faye/edward, ein (ah, get any welish corgy in there, it will work), and we might possibly see julia and vicious in the film as well.

Maybe if they put Steve Blum in a gym and grow his hair out and curl it, its going to get everyone to see it, even me (and the fangirls). And, we might possibly hear the greatest VA line ever, "...BANG"

Ah, in time, more info will be on it. Till then, im not flipping out...

Bebop is an episodic series of 26 episodes, not a nearly 300 episode series with arcs nearly 100 episodes. I'd say that alone makes it easier to adapt.
