The Official John Frusciante Thread

Much better album, thanks for the recomendation.

Some really beautiful guitar on there and musically much more interesting than Shadows, the arrangements seem to have so much more depth. Leaving one half of the album is pretty pretentious, but I have to say that the latter part is the strongest.

I didnt even know that he was the one who created the guitar piece for Butterfly by Crazy Town until like 2 days ago. Its a classic and he created it.

I think hes the man :D

Well its just a matter of time now before Urban makes some kind of negative comment, something like.

"Argh, rubbish, argh matey, britpop, BOLLOCKS, f*cking bollocks, shiver me tirabers, I'm here to pillage, give me yer gold matey, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum, ARGH!!!"

So anyway, since RHCP are taking a big break off touring and stuff, I think he should start investing in some new projects. I don't know what, but something cool.

I find Frusciante fits the role of backup vocalist much more than lead. However, he can sing when it comes down to it - check out that youtube video I posted above.

You might want to check out To Record Only Water for Ten Days. My favourite album by him is Niandra Lades & Usually Just a T-Shirt - it's from his drugged-up period. I advise you to check it out sometime, but be warned that it is fairly inaccessible. However, if you scratch beneath the surface, it's quite a good album.

Also, Ataxia is a minimalist group consisting of Frusciante, Joe Lally and Josh Klinghoffer.

I certainly think you could argue he is better then those three, but not Hendrix that was my point. I still think the consensus now would rank him a ways behind but I bet they are all regarded as on a par say 15-20 years from now when his fans are my age.

OMG i got the 1337th view :P

But in all seriousness yeah i do think he is incredibly underrated and easily one of the best guitarists of today.

:O

FINALLY!

Congratulations you are the first person i have ever seen agree with me on the Throw Away Your Television deal.

BTW i was there at Slane Castle 2003, i also bought the DVD.

You lucky mother ****er. I only have DVD and that looked like one of the best concerts i have ever seen. Where there any other banRAB that day playing?

Yea, i got your point. Its hard to really even debate this, mainly because of the time gap between the to, and the changing styles of playing and modern music.

I think that will be next to review, if anyone else wants to tackle Ataxia II, be my guest.

haha, he's far from a shredder. Playing fast and tapping =/= shredding.

He has some of the most tasteful leaRAB ever, plus his technique is flawless. I can upload his album Erotic Cakes. It's badass.

Yeah, what I meant was that you can hear a heavy Hendrix influence in his playing at times. But on a "greatest guitarists" list, I'd never put John ahead of Hendrix. Not sure if I'd put anyone ahead of Hendrix.

I was just wondering, and I mean mainly his solo work. I do love his work with the chili peppers but man I really love his solo work..

Any other fru fru heaRAB out there?

****edit****
