The Official "Drawn Together" News and Everything else Thread

This is not a thread for talkbacks of DT episodes, rather there are as of now, 5 episodes left to air in the third season. Comedy Central is basing their decision on whether or not to renew it based on the performance of the DVDs and ratings for the Season 3.2. Lil Bush was recently renewed for 10 episodes to air in February 2008 (Sickening..I Know). And it seems DT is still being pushed around the schedule like a black sheep. Am I the only one who thinks South Park and DT go together like peanut butter and jelly, they are the perfect companion shows and putting Sarah Silverman's show on after South Park just feels bizarre. This is a thread to discuss DT in general, any news or ratings info is greatly appreciated.

I couldn't agree more. Silverman is just too different a type of humor from South Park to be a good companion. If I recall, a lot of the reason Drawn Together was renewed for a third season was because it made that Wednesday block so formidable. Silverman gets good ratings, but they're still not as good as Drawn Together got during its first two seasons. If the CC execs don't like the show, that's their business, but they need to realize its popularity and how successful the show can be for them.

I don't think CC realizes what a popular show DT is. It is the number one rated show on college campuses (Even more so than Family Guy or South Park). I don't understand why, despite great ratings, they would choose not to continue it. Is there any info on the ratings so far for the second half of season three?

You know what bugs me?

Someone made the comment that Disney's Enchanted should be judged based on whether it laughs with or at Disney's movies. The Roger Rabbit vs. Shrek comparison. It's too easy to mock something, and take cheap shots at it. It's harder to write something that retains the spirit of the original and reminds you why you liked it in the first place. Or at least, it appears to be harder, as barely anyone does it.

Think about the potential a setup like Drawn Together's might have had if anyone in the room had wanted to take the second approach. Smashing all those genres together could have made for some real entertaining, fascinating TV. But instead it's used as an outlet for easy shock jokes, and nothing more. It's shallow.

I don't think South Park belongs next to Drawn Together any more than it belongs next to Sarah Silverman. If Comedy Central wants another South Park, then they need to find a show that develops its characters and creates an interesting world people want to return to every week. South Park would not be on as long as it has been if getting away with stuff was the only point to it.

Drawn Together and South Park make Comedy Central's highest ratings with millions viewers. I do think they should cancelled Lil Bush with it's terrible boring jokes and their awful animation ( Probably won't watched it's season two), Comedy Central needs to stopped making new shows and cancelled it. Drawn Together should renewl it's season four like they did to that Mind of Menica ( Another awful show compered with Lil Bush) and this stupid show doesn't get that much ratings as South Park has.

I buy the season two DVD and watching the rest of season three on television on every Thursday.:D

Hey, Mind of Mencia is not awful, okay? I happen to like that show, no matter what the haters say, and I'm glad it's getting a fourth season, and I'm glad the season 3 DVD is coming out this month! There, I said it.

Still, I wish Drawn Together would get a fourth season. I'm going to be watching the episodes whenever they air on TV, and I'm going to be watching the episodes whenever they air On Demand (by the way, last week's episode "Lost In Parking Space Part 2" is On Demand right now). I like messing with The Man!

Quoted for truth. Drawn Together is/was a better idea than it was a show. It had the potential to be more than just an over-the-top showcase of "How much can we get away with?" humor. DT is basically another Robot Chicken, another which would be a lot better without the excess of "pee-pee ca-ca" humor that simply isn't needed. Groucho Marx once said, "If you have to be dirty to be funny, then you're not that funny." That's pretty much my stance as well.

The show may have its faults, but it is one of Comedy Central's most well written and clever shows on at the moment. Is there any website that publishes cable ratings?

Man I've said this before and I'll say it again, if Comedy Central thinks their gonna get a better animated show then DT their outta their minds, its EASILY the 2nd best animated show in CC's history (South Park being 1st of course), and if they plan on picking up Futurama, a South Park/Drawn Together/Futurama Wednesday night line up would be genius, with Sarah Silverman dominating Thursdays.

I do understand why it's on the verge of being cancelled though, because of the animation costs, which for this show, must be a fortune.

"I wish we had a twelve year old girl and a donkey." - Captain Hero

When that line hit, this show solidified itself in my heart as being one of those extremely ****ed up shows with absolutely no remorse nor care for the feelings of anybody.

However, it wasn't until Claire introduced her retarded cousin who walks around naked, goes down on Captain Hero, and can only say excerpts from reviews from film critics about "I Am Sam" that I knew this show was going to be something truly special.

It has never once faltered with me, I love every single one of the characters, and the 12 year old boy inside me loves every time Clara takes her top off. Not to mention, it's one of the only times in the last 5 years I've grown to like a character played by Cree Summers. Last time I liked one of her characters this much was when she was Lady MacBeth on Project G.eeK.eR.

The show's fantastic, and I remember when Merrick told us on this very same board that DT was dead in the eyes of the execs at CC I was deeply saddened.

I do hope they can come back, everytime a show I fall in love with since episode 1 gets brought back from the dead it gives me more and more hope for Whedon and crew with "that space show that everyone's tired of hearing about MAYBE being ressurrected."

To me, it seems as if DT is Comedy Central's last acutally good show. If you notice, at least the show is consistent and delves more with it's humor, unlike in Mind of Mencia, where Carlos just jams his views of everything down our throats, Lil' Too Late, which I just gave a good enough description of, and The Sarah Silverman Program, which is ultimately just one crude and over-the-top joke after another. In Drawn Together, you have a great cast of flexiable characters that poke fun numerous issues without being one-sided or preachy unlike the channel's other animated program, which does get a little vulgar at times I'll admit, but like I said, it's watchable at the very least.

Besides the actual cost issue for each episode of DT, there's the returns potential. South Park is so popular that CC knows its returns potential is limitless. With minor edits for content, they got a very lucrative syndication deal together. DT's reliance on gross-out humor and profanities makes it impossible to syndicate in today's political environment.

Don't get me wrong, I want there to be a fourth season. And a fifth, and a sixth ... seven might be the place to stop, though. But, I understand the reasons why CC is looking to cut their losses already. The best thing is to watch, get all your friends to watch (at gunpoint, if necessary), and buy the season two DVD. Ratings and DVD sales can save the series!

I was always shocked whenever DT would get such a quick at the gun renewal (Didn't CC order a third season only after two episodes aired in the second?) Not because of it's popularity or quality, but because this show is a beautiful show to look at, gorgeous animation, even if you don't care for its content or the show itself, you can't deny this animation is the best on television at the moment. A lot of animators from Futurama apparently work on DT, and that has to cost a &%$#load for CC to produce

Absolutely. I don't think the animation on this show is all that fantastic. For something that's supposed to feature a characters from all walks of the cartoon world, the animation is pretty bland, IMHO.

Anyway (aside from the recently ended Ed, Edd and Eddy) I can't think of any show these days which has television animation capable of making me take notice. Shows seem to get flatter and flatter all the time.

In my eyes, DT is just that absolute release from political correctness that the world needs. Besides, nobody else seems to have the cahones to make such uncalled for sex and race jokes.:D Also, with its dirty low-blows and unapologetic, twisted humor, I can see why it's so popular among the 12-17 and 18-30 demographic, plenty of whom live and breathe this stuff (myself included). IMO, it would be in CC's best interest to keep this show up and running with at least a season 4. However, I do agree with Darth Ignatz that it shouldn't be around for too long, or else it'll just end up running itself into the ground.

While Comedy Central has yet to decide whether the animated series Drawn Together will be renewed for another run, creators Dave Jeser and Matthew Silverstein have already resigned themselves to the possibility that the show's third and current season is its last.

"The show has been off the air for over a year now. The last time [it was on], it was seven episodes split over two different nights," Jeser told the Knoxville News Sentinel. "You know at this point what's going to happen.

He added, "It's a little sad, a little frustrating."

Drawn Together, an animated series featuring eight character parodies living under one roof as part of a fictional reality competition, debuted on Comedy Central in 2004. The show has failed to become a certified hit, despite having been introduced amidst the reality television craze. While the show has a small but loyal fan base, it lacks large commercial deals that could help boost its standing among viewers and the network.

The first part of the show's third season concluded last November, but the show returned to continue its junior year only early this month. Only a few episodes are left for airing, but should the network decide to renew Drawn Together, it is unlikely Jeser and Silverstein will be involved, as they are in the middle of developing a new animated series (Mothballs) and a live-action series for FOX.

Understandably, the two are having a difficult time with letting go of the show.

"You know what? This is our baby," Silverstein said, "and our baby has been a disappointment since the day we had it. Four years and only 28 episodes? Family Guy does that many in a season."

Despite their resignation, Jeser and Silverstein do see a tiny ray of hope that may spell salvation for their series. FOX's Family Guy was brought back from cancellation by the network after the show found an audience in DVD Sales and Cartoon Network reruns. Meanwhile, Matt Groening's Futurama, the revived animated series set in the future, is scheduled to return to the small screen early next year.

"Animated shows keep coming back from the dead," Jeser said. "We both feel like there will be more Drawn Together somehow."

Drawn Together airs Thursday nights at 10:30/9:30c on Comedy Central.
