The Official "Coraline" News Thread

I've never read the book, but I'm a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan, and I love Neil Gaiman's stuff, so their new stop-motion animated film "Coraline" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327597/) definitely has me intrigued. It also has a great cast: Dakota Fanning as the titular heroine, Teri Hatcher, Keith David (whoohoo!), Ian McShane, Jennifer Saunders, and Dawn French. Here's a cool series of featurettes on the making of the movie, set to come out next February: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/coraline/news/1748615/exclusive_sneak_peek_at_coraline_video_5

Anyone else interested?

I like the plotline of Nightmare Before Christmas, but it freaked me out as a kid animation-wise and it still doesn't really do anything for me as an adult.

This new movie looks interesting though.

This looks completely, 100% awesome. Though I have neither read the book, nor listened to They Might Be Giants, I always love stop-motion stuff, especially when it is slightly dark and macabre.

Looks AMAZING. Stop motion rules.

You guys realize that we have like 3 stop motion films coming out next year? Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Tim Burton's Frankenweenie.

2009 is a good year for animation all around... especially stop motion.

I love stop-motion animation but knowing TMBG composed the music for it is the icing on the cake. Besides I like Neil Gaiman's work. This sounds like a fun time. It's nice to know we got some good cartoon movies to look forward to watching.

After hearing so much about this film, I decided I had to read the book; I did, and it was awesome. It really is a perfect story for the stop-motion medium. Can't wait for February!

Sorry to disappoint the TMBG fans, but recently John Flansburgh said in an interview that all but one of their songs were cut from the movie.

A shame. I was looking forward to this movie mainly because they were doing the music for it.

Bit of trivia: Their song "Careful What You Pack" from The Else was recorded for this movie but was cut early on.
