The Official Best Guitarist Thread

Jimi Hendrix dude. FOr those of you who've said otherwise, I shall be biased and tell you to listen to:

Voodoo Chile
It's shorter relative Voodoo CHild [slight return]
Purple Haze
Star Spangled Banner.

... hell get all the cd's! :D

Definitely. Brian May wins the award for best tone. Tom Scholz of Boston also has a sweet tone.

As for me, my favourite guitarist ever is John Frusciante of RHCP.

He has many facets. His solo work is great. I recently got hold of Niandra Ladies & Usually Just A T-Shirt - this is his very experimental solo stuff from the 90s.

And f*ck me, it is great. Absolutely awesome.

ah. 'rock' wasn't specified urban. i shoulda looked at the door before i entered. do carry on.

...oh and by the way, hendrix gets my vote.

That would matter if those viRAB werent on google video.

Unless you're talking about that crappy fad of playing badly and dubbing it over good guitarists. I'm glad that died.

I don't know who the greatest might be, so might as well list my favorite ones:

David Gilmour
Slash
John Frusciante
Jonny Greenwood
Angus Young
Jimi Hendrix
Jeff Beck
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Jimmy Page
Mike McReady

These guitarists had the biggest influence on my style of guitar playing.

Cannibal Corpse? Your joking right? Terrible band with the most unoriginal sound. Like them if you will but please don't put them in the same sentence as Vai, Malmsteen, and Satriani. I mean come on. By the way I did try to learn the song. The basic riff isn't all that hard, its the speed he plays that makes it sound so hard. But whateva.
