The Official Best Guitarist Thread

hendrix was crazy. and santana is yum as well. also, the guitar play from the allman brothers was good as well... pardon my ignorance for not knowing his first name

^ but he is stupid so his (batio) opinion doesnt count. and he will hopefully get carpoltunnel (sp?) syndrom and go poor and then have to get a real job and never taint people's minRAB with the idea that he is a good guitarist and that if you can play sweeps at 250 bpm then you are good. gah... how much does he make?

One of my favourite guitarplayers is Nels Cline (Nels Cline, Geraldine Fibbers, Wilco)
Because he is a very various player, various styles.
He plays for the sake of the song, never too much notes.

Gary Moore is brilliant. When BB King has left us Moore will b king of the Blues!
Also Chuck berry is good.

Are you joking?, improv is a metal thing?, dude, jazz in the most part is based on improvising, most metal players cant improvise that well, especialy compared to the jazz greats, theres little compromise at all in jazz guitar. You want to hear some great jazz players then you can start with Django Reinhardt and Joe Pass, and believe me, they can play lead just as well as they play rhythm, in fact, they often do both at the same time. Also check out John Mclaughlin of The Mahavishnu Orchestra, hes like the jazz equalvent of shreding, his edgy style would definitely appeal to you, check him out.

John Frusciante (RHCP) - this guy has hidden qualities. I agree with the person on the first page.
Joe Satriani
Jimi Hendrix
Brian May (Queen) - this guy is a great soloist

Those guys are my favourite guitarists. Honourable mentions to Mustaine, Clapton, SRV, Van Halen, Dimebag, Petrucci, Vai, Zappa, Gilmour, Michael Romeo, Hetfield and Page.

Undoubtedly Dimebags best work was with Pantera, some of my favourites are Cowboys From Hell, Domination, Sandblasted Skin, Cemetary Gates and War Nerve.
