The Official Best Guitarist Thread

Nice, nice, a lot of good guitarists there.... I would like to add to the "list" one John Petrucci. Listen to the song Glass Prison, by dream theater. Seriously, please. This song scared the living crap out of me with the guitar solos, just freakin' incredible.

Well, I don't know the work of most of the guitarists mention in this thread, as it wasn't my generation.

However, I feel it's safe to assume most, if not all of them, (the younger ones anyway), had a poster of Eddie Van Halen hanging on their bedroom wall.

I know hes good, but i find him overrated to the extream, the only band of his i ever liked was BN, i could never stand Deep Purple or especialy Rainbow(and that pretentious midget Dio)...I dont hate blackmore or hold anything against him, except for the fact that hes overrated by many for his technical ability, i look for other things in guitarists, i just dont find them in blackmore, im not saying he wasnt creative or original, of course he was, i just have a strong disliking for almost all of his musical output.

But i do bash Blackmore from time to time around DDD regulars who also visit this site, such as Andy, everyone from that forum knows how i feel about most of his music, so occasionly on this forum i will make a anti blackmore joke as a reference to my rep on the DDD forum.

John Mayer, although not a technically mind blowing guitarist has got to be amongst my favourites, along with Jack Johnson, yeah why not - Lets add in Ben Harper too!

I'm going to go a little against the grain here and say.....
Tony Iommi
Gary Moore
Michael Schenker
Joe Satriani
Ritchie Blackmore (and I dgaf if he is overrated)

I hope you arent one of those idiots who thinks batio is doing something new, what individuality do you have?, listening to metal?, pfft.

ya hendrix. (i bet you all thougt i was gonna say kirk hammett or dave mustaine or kerry king)

Eddie Van Halen in the top ten and Gilmour isn't? EVH is far better technically then Gilmour, but his style has been so much imitated and it's an unemotional sound. When you hear a Gilmour solo, you immediately know it's him. EVH could be MALSTEEM, PAUL GILBERT anyone who can wank the fck out of their guitars!
