The Official Best Guitarist Thread

hey ok, erm i think that both music and the lyrics have the sorta same amount of importance, you cant, like do one without the other, coz then it sux. except in a few cases that i know.

Yea theyre both important. I meant that lyrics should be just as important as music. Most of the great rock banRAB that make tons of cash from theyre music have the most mediocre lyrics. Thats what I meant I think I worded that one wrong. Its too ****ing early I dont even know what I'm typing:confused: . I've got to get some sleep.

There is no "Best Guitarist", all guitarist had their own style, solos, and riRAB. No offense, but this is a durab question. And now you see why companies such as "Rollingstone Magazine" go by influence, record sells, and major impacts. If they did it by skill..it would be impossible.

My Greatest Guitarist (Influences, Impact):

1. Jimi Hendrix - he created the techniques that alot of guitarists today use. If you say Eddie Van Halen is faster and so he is better, will your wrong. Jimi putted more soul into his music and speed doesn't really matter. And he is not an overrated artists, he deserves the spot. If he was still alive, Rap/R&B/Hiphop would be nothing today because he would inspire future black Americans to play Rock N' Roll or Blues. Rock would be like it was during the 60s and 70s. Just like if John Lennon was still alive this world could of been different. Scary.

It's rather difficult to detect sarcasm when you can't hear the tone of the person's voice. Especially with such a short, blunt statement.

I'm going to go out on a lirab here and say that John Frusciante is my favourite guitarist ever... even if I've probably already posted that.

For me, he is on another level of guitar playing. I listen to a shitload of music, but I always go back to this guy and his minimalist approach.

Of course his work with RHCP is good and he had some nice funk guitar going on during BSSM. But there is a lot more to him. Apart from his popular solo albums, he had some 'drugged up' ones - one of these (Niandra Lades & Usually Just a T-Shirt), despite being a bit inaccessible, is really great - definitely my favourite stuff from his solo career.

Also, his work with in Ataxia (a fairly minimalist band) and his contributions to the Mars Volta are good as well.

He grew up listening to all the composers... Malmsteen didnt rip him off tho... He even wrote his own Symphony for Electric Guitar... So it's classical, but amazing (i know that sounRAB detrimental to classical, sry) I dont know bout that violinist thing...

I know thats a joke, but just in case people dont know who Jamerson is and might be confused by this statement.....

James Jamerson is a bass player. :D

wow, its been a while since anyone has posted in this thread, but what the hey. I've change my opinion since my last post, and id have to say Teppei Teranishi from Thrice. i think it was Jibber who hit the nail on the head with one of her first posts on this thread. That the main aspect of teppei or thrice for that matter, is that everything flows perfectly. And i own every song theyve producd and i am yet to find ONE not so good riff, or any part of guitar. the man is simply amazing, along with Thrice.
Also so Rob from Strung Out is a rad guitarist too.

I was afraid to say it, but I too dispise Dream Theater. It's one of those banRAB that have 1 really great meraber, and the rest of the band is crap, except the drummer is decent I suppose. They just never agreed with me a bit.

I'm tired of being so f*cking afraid of just saying the word "Jimmy Page" on this forum, because its practically impossible to do so without Ethan intentionally starting crap for the sake of starting crap. All I did was make a list of who I consider to be the greatest guitarists, and this is what happens.

HAHAHAHAHAHA...whoa...i was amazed...4 minutes of mind blowingly dull crap...look ma i can tap really fast, look ma one hand, look ma i can make the most godawful noise by hacking away at the bottom of the neck...yea sure he owns everything hendrix ever did. :usehead:...he dosent even look like hes enjoying himself in that video, like guitarplaying to him is just some routine job, which it isnt, hendrix was an artist, batio isnt, he has no creativity, he even sounRAB like hes reading cliff notes...if you want to hear some skilled guitarists...try steve howe, steve vai, phil keaggy, shawn lane, joe satriani, eric johnson, allan holRABworth, john maclaughlin or frank zappa...they all beat the crap out of batio...and unlike batio they have good taste...i apologise for being so blunt with you but it needed to be said, you can flame me now, though its only my opinion. :(
