The Official Best Guitarist Thread

 F*uckin' ay, man. I mean, I like some fast playing in metal, like Hammet, but i like what sounRAB good more. Hammet can sound good while fast, don't get me wrong, but i'm talking about like songwriting - good corabinations of notes, melodies, and rhythms and whatnot. I think lots of guitarists today just say "well, i'll play as fast as i can and as loud as i can and it'll sound good." Well...no it won't f**k-nut. Generally, fast and loud is not very good, IMO.

I completely agree. Page is amazing and revolutionary. However, he was not the first to use the bow on the guitar. the idea was suggested to him by his guitar tech, who's father was a violinist as well as guitarist and had attempted to bow his guitar on a little-known album.

Give an example: A friend of mine told me a story of when he was at Ozzfest a couple of summers ago. He said he was talking to one of the guitarists and my friend told him he used to play guitar but stopped actually playing to learn more of the theory behind it. The guy says, "you don't need to know theory. Look at me, i wouldn't know an 'A' note from a 'C' note." My friend says to him, "That's why you suck."

I always thought the best musicians are ones you've never heard of...so I honestly can't say... but as far as the ones I have heard, I would have to say Kirk Hammett. He can let loose just as fast as dimebag could, and he has the ability to solo over your mom. Amen.

There is no doubt that Michael Romeo is one of the most skilled Guitarists in his genre. Fact is...that kind of shredding just bores a lot of people.
