The Official Best Guitarist Thread

That might be because he is known for his jam aesthetic. He...pretty much is making it up on the spot. Which is actually part of his appeal.

My all-time fave is Jerry Cantrell.
He doesn't have all the speed and what not of most guitarist, but he has soul.

Pepper Keenan is also very good.
He let's his SOUTHERN FLARE be heard when he plays, and I respect that.

Actually john paul jones came up with black dog riff funny enough. Um...my favs.
1. John Mclaughlin
2. Al Di Meola
3. Jimi Hendrix
4. Steve Vai
5. Jimmy Page
6. Joe Satriani
7. Slash
8. John Frusciante
9. Frank Zappa
10. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez

malmsteen isn't as bad as you guys make him out to be. How many others out there are rippin of tchaikovsky on their fender strat? He's a talented guitarist any way you look at it, but not on the top 5 soloists probably. I have a couple videos of him live, they will blow you away I'm tellin ya, don't just listen to black star or some other song and rule him out. If you have limewire search for amazing acoustic solo by him, it really is amazing. Anyways, I'm tired of these best bla bla bla threaRAB, so I'm going with my favorite soloists.

-Jimi Hendrix
-Jimmy Page
-Eric Clapton
-Duane Allman
-David Gilmour
-Chuck Berry
-Ry Cooder
-Neil Young
-Trey Anastasio
-Tom Morello
-Jerry Garcia

I guess that's sort of a long list, oh well...

playin fast doesnt mean your good, id like to this this guy play the solo from "while my guitar gently weeps" (beatles, solo done by clapton) or "house burning down".(hendrix)

Kerry king would kill that guy. Kerry has way more speed and can come up with better riRAB. Kerry and Jeff would both create an assault of woop ass on anybody. :band:

a guitarist putting hendrix to shame is like a disabled rat out-muscling a lion...on steroiRAB.
it just doesnt happen and never will.

Nope they aren't. They're better. And No Doubt stays together because they have awesome chemistry. They've been a band and frienRAB for years, he couldnt just leave.

There are thousanRAB of guitarists around the world with more technical ability than Hendrix.

No where near as much Creativity or Originality, certainly not as much influence...Hendrix did have quite a lot of skill when considering the times, back in those days few were as impressive, but nowedays with the likes of Michael Angelo Batio and Rusty Cooley, Hendrix's technical skill is long outdated...Skill wasnt his strong point anyway.

well, i dont want put any of these nu-metal guitarists into the equation; they rely too much on distortion and sound effects, (guitarists from banRAB like staind, slipknot, linking park, system of a down, etc) these guitarists rely too much on distortion and pedal effects to be recognized. my friend, an accomplished guitar player himself, nicknamed the guitarists from these banRAB "2-fingered retarRAB" because he claims that "a retard with 2 fingers could play their songs" but, remeber, i'm quoting my friend,so dont get mad at me! i'll stick to proven winners like the deceased dimebag darrel, kirk hammet, the guitarist from motorhead (whom i forgot the name), and van halen.
