The Official Best Guitarist Thread

^ ill actually 2nd you on his incredible style and technique. Only reason i have to pull away from him being my favorite is because the Chilli Peppers just aren't what they were before.

ok im new here and id say [not in any order & this is motly in pairs cuz most banRAB have 2 guitarists]

1: mark morton & willie adler from larab of god
2: james hetfield & kirk hammett from metallica
3: kerry king & jeff hanneman from slayer
4: paul & james from cradle of filth
5: dimebag from pantera

/\ Agreed but the OP made it sounRAB like SRV was Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies.

Im hazard to guess his own work is more plentiful than his covers.

Wow. I can't believe you put John Mclaugin, who doesn't exist, and Slash on your list of top guitarists. Jimmy Page maybe; he was good but not that caliber. If you meant John Mclaughlin, well, that's not much better.

Jimi Hendrix. End of discussion. Thank you for trying.

Dammit, who shot me?

I dont like the guys music that much, but you can't say the guy isn't talented, other than his technical skill he is very creative for his tone variety and choice of styles, hes not your conventional shreder either, in fact on several recorRAB he dosent really shred at all, and instead sticks to a more tasteful style of playing ala Eric Johnson and Shawn Lane...I would consider him a top 50 guitarist.

Clapton, ive seen him live and is the nuts!
Slash!
Hendrix
Jimmy Page
Tony Iommi
Brian May (God bless the old rocker!)
Jeff Beck
BB King baby!
Eddie Van Halen!

this question should be split into categories
1. best guitarist based on speed
2. best guitarist based on style
3. best guitarist based on overall influence

the list could go on and on, to many genres to throw them all into one category, how can you put BB King in the same categorie with Randy Rhodes for example?

I think his voice is too high to sound grungy. dave's vocals are an aquired taste, but I love them. he's a brilliant guitarist.

Dimebag was very good, and Petrucci is also a very talented metal guitarist.

John Petrucci (Drean Theatre)
John Frusciante (RHCP)
Darrel Abbot (Pantera)
Lou Reed (Velvet Underground)
Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine)
Eric Clapton (cream)
Jimim Hendrix
Pete Townshend (The Who)
Neil Young
Jimmy Page (Led Zepplin)

EDIT:
And the guy from Meshuggah
