The new iPhone 5S and 5C.
(Credit: Apple)It's two days before Apple's global launch of its two new smartphones, the iPhone 5C and 5S. Our sister sites have gotten their hands on the new handsets and have put both devices through the paces for a full review.
Both the editors at CNET and CNET Australia like the new iPhone 5S, and highlighted the better camera and fingerprint sensor as features that made the smartphone great. However, CNET’s Scott Stein mentioned that the same external design and small 4-inch screen are a letdown. The reviews also point out the lack of apps that take advantage of the new 64-bit A7 processor and M7 motion-tracking chip.
While the iPhone 5S is a good smartphone, both reviews stopped short of awarding it an Editors' Choice award. If you already have the iPhone 5, it's probably a good idea to skip the 5S. iPhone 4S users will love the slightly larger screen, faster hardware and new features. CNET's review can be found here, while CNET Australia's is located here.
As for the iPhone 5C, CNET 's Scott Stein found the plasticky shell similar to the older iPhone design (think iPhone 3G or 3GS), which he believes would be more appealing to kids. However, he warned that those who already have the iPhone 5 should give this a miss, as it's basically the same phone (with some minor upgrades) wrapped in a new plastic shell. Be sure to read the full review here.
