The New Harry Potter Book is $34.99 MSRP :ugh:

Books are a tricky little economy, even moreso with the HP books (which almost all retailers will be selling for close to cost, some at a loss).

But the MSRP is usually fixed with the knowledge that retailers will offer discounts on them anyway (between 20 and 50%, a relatively drastic slash on the MSRP when compared to other consumer goods), in an attempt to lure more buyers into bookstores.

Not many people buy books anymore, so they have to use these kinds of tactics to get people to come into the store. The HP series is an oddity, considering that even at $100 they'd have people still lining up to buy them, but the clout of Big Box retailers (who can buy huge quantities of books at much lower costs to themselves and relative to smaller bookstores) pretty much forces independents to (reluctantly) join in on the pricing wars.

There was apparently a scuffle between a distributor and publisher in europe about the price tag. Distributor wasn't going to sell what is considered a children's book for such a high price. They ended up selling it for 5 euros.

Finished in 16 (read to get in details ) as for pricing, if people want something bad enough they will pay any price. Besides, 2 DVDs take up 3-6 hours of your time where as a book takes up a hell of a lot longer (depending on the reader) so personally, I think it's worth it.

It's fucking harry potter. they could charege 100 and it would only sell slightly less.

Haha yeah and also I think that the $35 should have been 30 because that's what the last 2 books have been and OotP was longer... meh oh well it was the last one and they can be greedy bastards if they want, it won't sell any less

W00T, HARRY POTTER!
