The new Halloween films

Much, much worse.

The original Carpenter film relied on suspense and characterization over relentless gore. Rob Zombies new Halloween films are barely suspenseful and lack any characterization unless you count Michael's back story, which coincidentally ruins any of his mystique that made him scary. They also contain endless streams of pointless bad language. As i said in another thread a while back, Zombie's script seems like it was written by a 5 year old who's just heard the F word for the first time in the playground at school.

Oh, and the acting (apart from Malcolm McDowell) is atrocious, and none of the cast are in any way likeable.
 
After seeing the original Halloween film so many times, it would have to be something pretty special to improve on that film. I would have rather had Halloween's original Director John Carpenter make a Halloween prequel/remake instead. A sequel is one thing, but a remake of such an iconic horror film is another. Rob Zombie had his work cut out for him from the start.

I'm not saying the Halloween remake is a complete disaster, there are some good scenes early on, but Zombie's attempts to remake the scenes seen in the original Halloween are just terrible.

Unfortunatley I can't see Halloween 2 being any better/different. But I didn't really like Halloween 2 which was not as good as the first film, so hopefully Zombie has improved the story a little.
 
After seeing the advert for halloween 2 i really dont want to see it. Theres a clip of Michael crashing through a door, were as in the orignals he would always just appear out of nowhere, which made much more scary!
 
They vary a great deal from John's Halloween.Zombie's movies had no chance in hell of making a better movie than 1978 classic but it did have slightly more plot.His sequel does round up nicely (what he obviously had in mind) better than the majority of the orginal sequels.

I think people try to compare Rob's version too much to the original.The original was more chiller/thriller with the twist being Michael was infact this supernatural boogeyman his "crazy" Doctor hinted towarRAB.The storyline was nothing fresh and the villain wasn't well thought out (he didn't need to be).However,John perfected the old "killer on the loose" format into a 10/10 rollercoaster ride and got two great performances out of his actors.


The 2007 remake is more a loose vision of a f**ked up world and a serial killer that comes out of it.I feel the intention was to have the characters as being quite unlikable.Ofcourse by taking that route,you ask what is the point.Michael is more depressing than scary and the increased violence feels like an exercise in modern movie gore.
But it's unfair to knock a movie for not being suspenseful
when that wasn't really the direction.
 
I really enjoyed the recent remake. I can't compare it to the original because I can't really remember it. I'm sure I've seen it donkeys years ago but I don't think I've seen it since.
 
Can anybody tell me then how Michael Myers was able to drive a car in the original Halloween film? He was in that asylum from a very young age. (Flawed script)
The 2007 remake is the best. I haven't seen the 2009 version yet.
 
You could probably go through every film that's ever been made and pick holes in the plot. Why not just enjoy it for what it is?

That's the problem now, nothing is left to the imagination. Everything has to have an explanation.
 
That was probably the only good bit in the film! It's a shame that moments later she was lying paralysed in a pool of blood being cradled by Brad Dourif, lol.
 
zombies remakes are very different, nothing like the orignal they work on there own merit (well the first anyway, i havent seen the 2nd yet but im assuming it will be the same) i liked his first, there is more of a back story and obviously its a lot more ****ed up and violent lol

but id just watch them anyway rather than letting people tell you what they are like and make up your own mind
 
Well it was either a flaw in the script or an early hint towarRAB Michael being more than a crazed killer.At the end of the movie,Michael is shot several times yet disappears with Loomis looking he had been proved right about Myers being pure evil.

"The shape" is simply a mysterious force of supernatural evil in the original so driving a car isn't really a problem.
There is the line with Loomis asking how he could drive and the reply being "maybe somebody at the asylum gave him lessons".

I think it's open to interpretation.
 
Actually he crashes through a door in the original trying to kill laurie,she then stabs him with a coat hanger.

I enjoyed both the recent Halloween movies,people are always gonna rip on the remake,some think it sacralige that the original was remade,if u have the chance see the workprint of Halloween 2007 its the best version of the movie and has a different soundtrack and many different scenes(and ending)
 
Actually, there is every chance it will be on a cable channel somewhere in the next 2 or 3 weeks isn't there.

Would be handy if both versions were on consecutive nights or summat.
