The Music on Family Guy (Something to Praise)

I know that many people (and I admit, I am one of them) complain about Family Guy's recent writing, but obviously there should be something GOOD to point out about the show to cancel out the redundancy of saying that 'FG suckz nao". And that good thing would be the music. Whether you want to admit or not, the show has some catchy songs and Seth MacFarlane has a great singing voice.

So tl;dr name some of the songs in the show that you can't help but love, have caught in your head, or even sing along! XD I know that me and my friend know by heart the "FCC Song" (and sing it as well) and I sadly know by heart the "Can't Touch Me" parody of "Can't Touch This". XD;;

Actually, they've now made me get a bad taste in my mouth every time I watch a musical.

I used to like The Sound of Music, but now if I watch it the first thing that comes to my mind is Peter remembering pop culture things or Brian and his liberal BS.

Walter Murphy and Ron Jones have done a wonderful job on the show. The music (both score and songs) on FG have been the best in animation for the past decade.

I found it amusing on one of the FG commentaries when Seth said that the only shows to still use a full orchestra were Family Guy, American Dad, Simpsons... and Two and a Half Men. Yeah, I've often hummed the lavish orchestral melodies from Two and a Half Men. :p

I've already listed my favorite FG songs in a previous thread, in the Adult Swim forum, I think, but for the non-lyrics stuff:

-Any chicken fight. That's some good stuff, and sounds like it could fit right into a big budget Hollywood action movie.

-Black Eye Griffin. Ron Jones nailed the silent era music in this sketch. It's fun to listen to even outside of the episode.

-In the same vein, the music that accompanies the cutaway in "Brian: Portrain of a Dog" when Peter and Brian are '30s cartoon characters.

-The opening/ending credits for "Road to Rupert". Yeah, it's based off the song from "Anchors Aweigh", but it's given a modern jazzy arrangement that puts a smile on my face.

-The Flintstones comedy sting after "You think YOU have a crap job" and "Not again!" So ridiculous how long it goes, but that's what makes it funny.

-Peter's "Theme Music" in "Viewer Mail #1". It's a nice touch that it has a different tone depending on what he's doing. My favorite part is when he's on the bus. "Hey buddy, want to turn that stuff down?!"

-The epic fight between Lois and Stewie. Like the chicken fight, this could easily be transplanted into a serious action without missing a step.

Seth MacFarlane DOES have a great singing voice. He sounded great in the You've Got a Lot To See song (one of my favorite songs). The FCC Song is a classic. I also liked the Road to Rhode Island. I guess those would be my top 3 songs right there (and who could forget the You Have AIDS song? :p).
And yeah, Speedy Boris pretty much nailed my favorite non-lyrical arrangements.

In the episode where Meg is trying to interview Mayor West (I forget the title), there is a Looney Tunes "gag" reference where someone gives Meg a bomb, and when the explosion clears, a duck bill appears on the back of her head, she moves the bill to the front of her head, says "Of course you realise this means war!" (a la Daffy Duck) and walks away. The way the music highlights each of the footsteps is a very nice Stalling-esque touch.

I'm wondering, was the music in the Blue Harvest episode a rearrangement of the Star Wars track or was it the exact same music, although I imagine the royalties would be quite high?

My personal favorite songs are probably the Road to Rhode Island song as well as the FCC song. Both were very upbeat and funny.

The unedited version of "Lois Kills Stewie" on the volume 6 DVD set includes a really great song by Stewie that's really one of the best songs in the series. Numbers like "A Bag of Weed" and "Shipoopi" give me a good idea what a theatrical Family Guy musical would be like.

I like the music in Family Guy. My favorites are You've Got a Lot to See, Shipoopi, and I've Got a Little List. Plus, Brian singing Rick Astley is pretty funny.

About the opening post, what does tl;dr mean?

tl;dr stands for: Too Long; Didn't Read. Used in situations where you think that what the poster is writing is long winded to the point that you skipped over it for whatever reason.

As for my favorite songs, I always loved the FCC one, Bag of Weed, I need a Jew, and I guess Brian singing "Never Gonna Give You Up" I just laugh at the original songs since I do tend to hum them the next day over.

Actually Seth has said in a number of DVD commentaries that George Lucas and Lucasfilm have been very supportive of Family Guy's use of Star Wars characters and they have never had any issues with them.

Honestly, being the big Family Guy fan I am, I love almost every song. The BGM is often what's get me, hightlighted by what a few have already posted.

Seth is one of my favorite voices out there, and I look forward to every 'Road to...' episodes, and their guaranteed songs. (Except in the case of Road to Germany).

BSG
used an orchestra occasionally, it's just that they didn't use brass instruments. Lost uses a full orchestra doesn't it? Or, if not, I can't see the ensemble being smaller than that for the FOX shows.
