As far as I know, Nikki writes alll lyrics. I think Vince's name is there is for song arrangements and such. Reading THE DIRT & Nikki's Heroin Diaries, it seems that Nikki does ALL writing.

I guess you haven't seen any videos of Motley live.

For example, at 1:00. He sounRAB absolutely awful. And its like this every show I've seen.

Lets just say, I heard far worse than that live. Given the massive drug intake of the band, having bad shows would hardly be a surprise. The same could be said for Megadeth.

Motley Crue are a group that I always dimissed as being the best of a bad bunch (Ratt and Quiet Riot etc) Then I met somebody the other day that is a huge fan and wanted to know what I thought about their albums........Well as I `ve never even heard one I couldn`t answer the question!!! Sure...I knew the singles, the videos and their wild lifestyle etc but had never listened to one album!

Now I`ve been lent practically all their stuff and will listen to an album each day for the next week or so and give an objective opinion.

it would be interesting to know what people think of this group and especially their albums.

I'm not a big fan. City Boy blues from 'Theatre Of Pain' has a great riff and 'Wild Side' from 'Girls,Girls,Girls' is OK too. 'Shout At The Devil' deserves another listen as I last heard it years ago and thought it was badly produced sub par metal but my stance may have changed by now. I have a soft spot for a couple of Ratt albums even though I know they are cliched ridden claptrap!

i'm guilty of having written them off as nothing more than hair back in the day. then i started working with a (much younger) hardcore fan at my current job and we've listened to a few of their older albums and they're a notch above their peers (poison / warrant etc.) in my eyes.

it's not like they re-define rock music or anything like that but they mashed the glam, rock, and metal elements of their day into a very unique package. i'd put them on par with van halen overall.

reading The Dirt was actually quite insightful into the group as well, it's interesting to see how some of the merabers changed (nikki) while others are still come of as narcissistic as ever (tommy and vince). or in the case of mick mars just how out there he is hahaha.

i've also had 'kickstart my heart' stuck in my head for about 2 weeks now after hearing it on the radio during a road trip a while back hahaha

Some one told me a story a few months ago, about Vince Neil getting chased down Sunset Blvd. (I think) and getting beat up by the Misfits. It was years ago that it happened I was told.

Does anyone know how true this is? If so I feel sorry for Vince haha, the Misfits are all ****in huge!

but protools was only commercially released in 1991, (2 years after dr. feelgood) and the majority of rock banRAB of the day hated the idea of going digital...

Vince sounded good on those recorRAB because he was feeling good. like him or not his voice is integral to the band. to my ears it's his voice that immediately distinguishes the band from their peers.

i do agree that they had a more unique package and did their own thing unlike many of the banRAB in their genre at the time. i really respect them.

As a hair metal singles band, they were the best. They knew how to produce a tight and heavy melodic metal song, like few banRAB could. I love to shuttle through 10-12 songs like Dr. Feel Good, Shout at the Devil, Kick Start My Heart etc. Album wise I'd rank them close to the top...Pyromania > Cinderella -Night Songs > Ratt - Out of the Cellar > Skid Row - ST > Shout at the Devil.

Their first 2 albums are about as fun as music can get.

Glam rock mixed with punk rather than the crappy over-glossed radio friendly trash hair metal became later on.

After listening to their third album Theatre of Pain, I have to agree with the above, The album is very different to the first two with its more noticeble guitar riRAB by Mick Mars, commercial sheen and has a much more cleaner metal sound to it and is better produced than the first two, a thing producer Tom Werman is known for anyway.

I`m actually looking forward to their next two and best know Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr.Feelgood.
