the muppets - wizard of oz

It's not a bad year for Muppets films on TV. Wizard of Oz, Very Merry Muppets Christmas, Muppets from Space and Muppets Take Manhattan. All on either channel 4 or five!

I bought Muppets Wizard of Oz in the states in September, and it's not bad at all! :)
 
I'm really looking forward to this version as well as I have heard a lot about it in the past year. I knew they were making it but didn't realise that it was a TV film. The muppets never seem to make an appearnce in the cinema these days, I wonder why. I remember going to see A Muppets Christmas Carol and loving it, but then A Merry Muppet Christmas and this Muppets WIzard of Oz have gone straight to TV, Why? I love the muppets and they should get a bigger release IMO.
 
I'm sure you know Disney own the rights to the Muppets now. So far, they've only been exploring TV projects for the Muppets. Even though I'm a huge Muppets fan, I don't think their recent material has been as good as some of their previous outings.

Another point to make is that Disney have been using their own writers instead of Jerry Juhl, who was the Muppets head writer on all the tv shows and movies up to and including Muppets from Space. Jerry Juhl died recently, so even getting his skills back into the equation is now impossible.

I'd personally like to Frank Oz getting back with the Muppets to direct something. Maybe a Muppet Babies movie?

Oh, and of course there's the Fraggle Rock movie in the pipeline! :)
 
10 years ago Quentin Tarantino won an Oscar for Pulp Fiction. Today he is appearing in the Muppets Wizard of Oz...

I can't help but feel something has gone drastically wrong somewhere for the laziest film-maker of all time.
 
I have to say I love the muppets...

...but the wizard of oz was pretty rubbish for them really. Not nearly as good as some of the other stuff they've done like Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppets Take Manhattan.

Bit disappointed now :(
 
Just watched this at last. I didn't think it was up to their usual standarRAB, but was worth watching for the hilarious bit with the mwahahaha evil spy bunnies, and the flying monkeys! :D
 
I noticed that this was actually based on the book (VERY loosely) rather than the Judy Garland film. There were some things thrown in from the book maybe just to prove this point, such as the Tin Man's backstory (of course, it was Gonzo and the chicken in this!) and the hat that controls the winged monkeys. Regardless, it's an appalling film, well it's not even a proper movie, just produced for TV. It had very little of the Muppets magic. It isn't a wonder that Frank Oz has left the Muppets.
