People thought the Mummy Returns was the last film in the succesful 'Mummy' Franchise starring Oded Fehr,Arnold Vosloo,Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Well no it wasn't this year sees the release of the THIRD movie in the franchise and contains massive changes

1)Alex is no longer a young boy he is a fully grown man
2)Rachel Weisz does not star she is replaced by Maria Bello
3)Oded Fehr does not return
4)Arnold Vosloo does not return
5)It is not set in Egypt but in the Far East featuring a shape shifting mummy played by Jet Li
6)Stephen Sommers is not directing or writing like he did with the first two

I really liked the Mummy and Mummy returns(though a lot of people disliked Mummy Returns) but I will probably not watch this. All the points and changes are not small and are what made the first two movies enjoyable. I may in a weak moment during mind numbing boredom go watch this but I doubt it

Are you a fan of the series? Will you watch this?

Hmm i may watch out of curiosity but i dunno if it will be as good as the first two although it may be a good film when standing alone.

I have just looked at the actress and she doesnt look very action filmy....

I probably will go and see it but I still am depressed over the fact Rachel Weisz isn't in it. It would have been better to kill her character off rather than replace her IMO...you can't replace Rachel Weisz!!!

They killed her off before and just revived her I don't know how they'd explain leaving her dead. I will miss Oded Fehr too he was brilliant in the first two

the first film was excelent the Mummy Returns, was ok but was certainly no where near as good and the plot line was really pushing the boundries of credibility.

Personaly I'm a believer in the theory that the more sequals you make the worse the films usualy get and this one will probably be no different.

OK, I might watch this film when it comes out, but there are few things you need to know.

1 - The first is true, plus the movie is set in 1946, hence Alex sudden aged appearance.
2 - Rachel Weisz was ask to come back, but said no, due to "creative differences". It was then they casted Maria Bello to replace Rachel Weisz.
3 & 4 - People asked why Oded Fehr and Arnold Vosloo weren't coming back in third film and it was revealed that they couldn't repeat the story again, which people might get bored of, so they decided not to cast Oded or Arnold for the third film. I'm looking forward to it.

Yes you can. She's easy to replace (as are most actors & actresses). :D

I liked her in the role but I honestly didn't care if she came back or not. And the fault doesn't lie with the filmmakers because they did ask her to be in it. But she publicly stated in a couple of interviews that she didn't want to do anymore "Mummy" movies so she passed on this one.

Bit disappointed the old characters are gone (especially Imhotep and Anaksanamun if that's her name) and that they've changed it into a Kung Fu flick. Would've preferred they stuck with the original theme of the past 2 films. Don't think I'll be watching, with no disrespect I think I've seen enough martial arts films now.

Anck su namun was her name I think.

Perhaps they are trying to steer in into being a Rick O'Connell franchise rather than a Mummy(a specific mummy) franchise.

I always thought it was a mix of Indiana Jones/Rick Dangerous.

Is John Hannah reprising his role as the comedy turn?

I've no idea where the negativity towarRAB this is coming from. The first two were dumb as a stump and kind of fun. And this looks much the same, with added kung fu. It was always Diet Indy Jones for the Sunny D generation.

Heard Weisz backed out because she didn't want to be portrayed as a mother of a grown man. Well, i can understand that, she still looks to young to be Luke Ford's mum.

Still, hope she mind that in the first place, Fraser and her look pretty good as a couple.

Well Maria Bello, who's replaced Weisz, is actually about 10 years older than her, so I guess it wouldn't have been very convincing if Weisz had stayed (without some heavy aging make-up).

Then again, Rick still looks like he hasn't aged since the first Mummy (set 20 years previously) and looks way too young to have a 21 year old son.
