The Most Offensive Anime You've Ever Watched?

I just vented my outrage against one. And one that seems awfully well-loved, strangely enough.

Shameless plug is shameless.

Eikin for me. I felt bad for humanity once I knew that show existed. I kinda feel like all humans collectively de-evolved a few steps once that was made. And then again when it was licensed and dubbed.

Seconded on Eiken. Just thinking about it makes me physically sick.

There is no story, and they don't even attempt to hide the fact that it's nothing more than a vehicle for fanservice. I kid you not, a main plot point of the OVA focused around sliding suggestively down a pudding slide. A pudding slide.

And they don't even get the fanservice right, either. There's a little girl in the series with individual breasts almost as large as her entire body. In what universe would that be anything but horrifying?

I wonder if Strike Witches may count as offensive. I've watched a few episodes of it at a convention yesterday, and it seems like Gonzo (the studio who worked on the series) went nuts when it came to fanservice.

The most obvious thing when it comes to the series is the fact that almost none of the main female cast where no pants whatsoever (of course, given how pants or skirts may result in a "death by cape" moment if the cast wore them when wearing the Striker units, that may be understandable). However, that's just the tip of the iceburg, with the fanservice levels ranging from the "normal" outfit for the school that main character went to while living in Japan (basically a sailor top over a swimsuit with no skirt whatsoever) to a bath house scene where the nipples on most of the girls are clearly visible. To make things crazier, this was being shown during the afternoon hours, with no one being "carded" when it comes to entering the video room. I think I can see the complaints coming right now.

However, the fanservice is possibly one reason why I'm tempted to pick up this series when it comes out next month, since I'm curious to see how much further Gonzo will go when it comes to getting away with certain types of fanservice on a show that aired on Japanese TV.

Well, Strike Witches isn't alone on that account. Both Burst Angel and Transformers: Cybertron (also animated by Gonzo) have a habit of doing it too. And constantly were pushing the envelope on it too.

If you mean offensive as in "it offenRAB me that someone could make something so unintentionally unwatchable", then Ninja Resurrection and Genocyber are probably the most offensive things to ever come out of Japan.

Gundam SEED Destiny by the same token. I spent half the series feeling like I was being talked down to, as if the writer assumed I was too durab to ever question what I was watching. And not in that cheesy "oh god, the Gundams are humping rockets to get into space, it's so stupid it's hilarious" sense, either.

I was less interested in "that was so bad it was offensive" answers and more "this was morally disgusting". My initial example of Honneamise is particularly insidious and bothersome because it's not just fanservice-y schlock. It's mostly a very well-made movie that just so happens to throw in a horrifically misogynistic plot twist that could only have been written by someone either braindead or truly evil.

Queens Blade......No, not because its offensive to the art of animation ,or offensive to women..but because it DEGRADES THE ART OF CHIVILRY & KNIGHTHOOD!!! One does not give a sword to a harlotte!!!

OK seriously though...I just reallly really HATE Queens Blade, its the anti-claymore!

Instead of having respecable female nights with sworRAB, its abunch of, of...call girls with sworRAB!!! not to mention Acid milk is DISTURBING!!! NOT SEXY!!! (& no one in their right mind would want to watch such a vulger decrepid show!)

I regret with every fiber of my being watching the 1st episode......

Definately agree with those who find Eiken distrubing. Pretty much an over the top degree of fanservice gone wrong. Second on Ninja Reserrection. To think that this show was suppose to have more episodes to it than the initial two.

You can throw in Apocalypse Zero as well. It's some terrible Fist of the North Star rip-off with a dash of gory fanservice for the masochists who dare to watch it. Thankfully, it was only a 2-part OAV.

Bleach can also qualify. It felt like an endurance test of how long you can take bland, repetitive stories and characters. I gave up about 40 episodes in honestly.

I can't relate to the concept of finding fiction "morally offensive". It's not even something I can imagine on a hypothetical level in my mind.

The only thing about a story that can offend me bad writing. Bad writing that offenRAB me intellectually. But morally? It's fiction. I can't even begin to understand the concept of being morally offended by fiction.

This for the most part. I mean, I find Eiken disgusting, but that doesn't necessarily mean there's an audience for it. (I know a fan of the comic personally)

Fiction is designed to send messages, and sometimes those messages can be morally offensive. I mean, Joseph Goebbels produced fictional movies with a message of anti-Semitism, and I'd imagine any decent person would be offended by those.

In the case of Honneamise, the message given by the movie is "rape is the victim's fault", and that is horribly offensive one. It's all the more insidious that its wrapped into an otherwise innocent film. Imagine Porco Rosso if in the middle of the movie there was a scene inserted where out of nowhere Porco tries to rape Fio and then Fio decides the right thing to is apologize for defending herself and for not letting him rape her. That's basically what it feels like watching this movie, and as far as I'm concerned its disgusting.

Both examples sound like a case of bad writing decisions resulting in scenes that are completely at odRAB with the story. I'd be mad about the bait-and-switch too, but not out of moral outrage.

For those of you discussing the rape scene from Wings of Honneamise, here's a bit of trivia about the UK release you may find interesting.
When the film was originally released in the 1990's for UK release, the rape scene was cut out of the movie by the British film censors.
It would be interesting to know if anyone from the UK has seen this version and whether their perception of the movie was different.

I remeraber watching Wings of Honneamise on the US release where the rape scene was not cut, and also felt a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. It took me out of the movie for a second. I can understand why some would be offended by it.

Hm, "morally disgusting," huh? Well I wouldn't call it disgusting but I was quite frustrated with Wedding Peach. This absolute obsession with getting boyfrienRAB and getting married, along with changing yourself just so a boy will like you, made me feel a bit sick. I've never made it past episode 20 of this show.

There's also this scene in Dominion Tank Police involving... I guess what you would call implied male genitals... and it just totally threw me off. It's an uncomfortable moment and I don't know why they felt it was necessary. Otherwise it's an OK series.
