It is useful for knowing, in an accurate way, our thoughts, views, likes, dislikes and ethic and aesthetic attitudes. For instance, Nastassja Kinski in Tess is (extremely) beautiful. Nastassja Kinski in Cat People is hot (as Hell). Same actress, two different views.

Maybe you don't see this distinction, but I bet all the male (and perhaps female too) merabers here who have watched both films, perfectly know what I'm talking about.
