The Most Annoying Anime Characters

Wow... just wow.

It isn't so much that he's completely useless.
It's the fact that he is constantly crying about the fact that he is useless.
He's a huge drag on the show.

And the end! In episode 26!
Priscilla is finally gonna be killed, and what does he do?
He begs Claire not to kill her... cause Priscilla, who he's known for about a day, has a sad past too.

Dude! We're talking about a monster who kills people and eats their guts.
You know this. You've WITNESSED this yourself!

And how does he help prevent the death of the horrible antagonist?
With more crying!

You are completely useless for 25 episodes, and when you finally do have a purpose, this is it!?

God you suck!
 
Shinji - (Evangelion) I can't stand people who don't have a backbone. And his constant whining throughout the series made me hate Evangelion (and the constant depression).

Naruto - At first I couldn't stand him because the guy was an idiot and kept going about being hokage, now he's even more annoying with this Sasuke "obsession".

Shippo - (Inuyasha) This thing here... Always talking when he shouldn't be. Always going on about apologizing to Kagome.. (That's a little nitpicky but still) Honestly, I don't even see the point of him being in the series at all.

I can name more but those are the main three characters I hate/annoy me the most.
 
Pan - oh my god, she is so annoying. Okay, not as annoying as Tiffany Volmer's Bulma, but that's more reflective of her performance and the bad dub dialog. Pan is just so annoying. She wants to take credit for everything and she runs away because she feels useless on a desert planet. Of course, they do the whole thing where they cheer her up and tell her that she's an integral part of the team and that she isn't in the way but they were right the first time. She's annoying, in the way, constantly getting in trouble. She's like Chloe on Smallville or Dawn on Buffy.
 
What makes him an 'idiot'? The entire point of his childhood personality is that he sought attention and recognition to fill the emptiness in his heart. He made his arabitions known and he did the hard work required to gain strength as a corabat shinobi, whether that meant mastering his own chakra or the chakra he was entrusted to keep safe.

Naruto's an empath. He emphathises with others who have experienced pain similar to him. What gets him so riled up (aside from Sasuke and he being the classic archetype of rivals, one an underdog the other a genius), is that he knows the relatively decent guy who he trained with can still be saved from the darkness, like Iruka with he and himself with others like Neji, Inari, and Gaara). That's a crucial point of his character and is what gives him an endearing quality.

Of course, there's always 'different strokes', but I think 'idiot' and 'obession' are being used in an unfair and exaggerated manner.


Yeah Sam, Raki got pretty annoying later on in Claymore. I really wanted to slap him upside the head, espicially with the pacing of those last six episodes.
 
This is one of the most subjective topics because different people will always be annoyed by things that won't even make others bat an eyelash, not to mention that being annoying doesn't equal a lack of purpose or development, but there's really no way around it.

The entire Terraism cult (Legend of the Galactic Heroes) is nothing more than a bunch of religious fundamentalists with no discernible personality outside of a couple of vaguely arabitious leaders. Job Truniht also qualifies, being essentially the epitome of corrupt, self-serving politics. That might not sound too bad, but they're responsible for making things worse for everybody at one point or another.

Satoru Kanzaki from Area 88 is the exactly the kind of "friend" nobody in his right mind would ever want to have.

Dung Beetle from Bokurano, because even after certain revelations come to light that doesn't make him any less of a sadist.

Speaking of sadism, both Gauron (Full Metal Panic!) and Ali Al-Saachez (Gundam 00) tend to get on my nerves for that reason.

Scythe Master (Phantom) because, to say the least, he was absolutely deranged and annoyingly full of himself.

Revolutionary Girl Utena has several candidates, but Souji Mikage would appear to be particularly fitting considering his misguided objective and eventual fate, which was amusingly appropriate when all is said and done.



It might be that I'm more forgiving or less cynical, but from my perspective that's not entirely accurate.



I would be inclined to agree with this, as opposed to HellCat's original statement which is a bit too hyperbolic for my taste, but even then it's more of a case of rushed or insufficient development rather than one of annoyance, which is basically a personal reaction.

What prevents me from going quite that far is a certain degree of understanding, first and foremost, and the fact that the first season preemptively compensated for several of R2's later failings. Some prefer to look at it the other way around, but for me that makes more sense. Perhaps that's not a popular position, but I certainly prefer it to the alternative, which tenRAB to be more visceral than rational.

Though, in all fairness, Gundam isn't exactly free from the problem of having large casts of uneven quality or, simply put, casts that can be sweepingly dismissed as either annoying or melodramatic depending on who you ask. There's a variety of perceptions to that effect without having to look very far, whether they are fully justified or not.
 
To you right? Because that certainly don't mean anything to me. You make it sound as if I'm suppose to like him (I'm suppose to not like him) because of your reasoning or for his "endearing quality".


Especially considering the name of the topic.
 
I tend to think that it's really more about the imitations of Shinji that failed for most people, not the character himself. I've thought much better of him since I gave EVA another chance with 1.0 (and the show in general for that matter). This happens elsewhere too, like with Simon in Gurren Lagann and maybe even Sasuke from Naruto. I know lots of people love time skip Simon while not liking kid Simon, but kid Simon's "emo" moments are how ANY kid would react to the bad situations he found himself in.
 
To tell you the truth I wasn't even looking at the dates, considering this topic was revived from its grave earlier today.

I suppose that doesn't make much of a difference in the long run, either way, but I apologize for any misunderstanding on my part.

What I can't fully understand about the dislike for Simon is the fact that right before the time skip he's already matured and recovered from his previous depression. In other worRAB, there's enough development to compensate for whatever earlier misgivings people might have had without having to assume a negative stance with respect to the first half of that character's life.
 
Chichi from Dragon Ball Z is a major one for me. Why is it she never pestered Gotien about going to school but nearly killed Gohan about it? He's the strongest none fused character on the show, if it wasn't for her he'd probaly be even stronger than fused characters. I just want to punch her

Gary series One, he was my first least favorite anime character ever. Oh wait him and Mars from Sailor Moon. Both were soo annoying to the main characters. Some times I understood Mars but other times she could be a major pain even when Sailor Moon didn't deserve it.

Jaden from Yugioh GX. Most over shown character on the show, they had other good Yugioh GX characters on there but no!!! They kept shoving Jaden in our face, not only that but kept getting luck of the draw. The only time I started to like Jaden was in series 4 or 3 when he got more serious with dueling. I also liked King Jaden. Too bad they didn't finish dubbing the entire series 4.

Cody from Digimon series 2. His dubb voice is annoying, he has no personality. Heck he didn't understand that he had to kill a Digimon to save people, he even gave up during a battle. Most annoying Digimon character ever!!

There are more for sure but I can't remeraber at this moment.
 
Mihoshi from the Tenchi ovas. Seriously, is it that hard to put a diaper on a baby?

Madoka from Full Moon. They really made her someone to hate in the anime. In the anime I wanted to throw her out the window for trying to steal Eternal Snow from Mitsuki. She's much better in the manga, since she is not a cheat.

Also, D's hand can be really snarky at times in the anime movies.
