The Mist

I watched this for the 1st time on Saturday, enjoyed the film.
Special effects were a bit ropey to say the least....but the ending was horrendous....
to go through all of that and then decide in the space of 5 minutes to kill everyone then yourself ?
No way.....i would of given it at least 10 minutes before doing it :D
All joking aside i didn't like the ending.

Water hurting invading aliens who chose to invade a planet that's 2/3 water?

That would just be stupid.

Next you'll suggest a climactic fight sequence involing Joaquin Phoenix swinging wildly with baseball bat.

Am I the only one who cheered out loud during a scene involving a religious nut? That was the most satisfying movie moment ever... possibly :D

Oh and yeah the ending was shocking. I loved this movie!

In the book we don't know the extent of the disaster. Is it the town, the state or even the world? The movie answers the questions and gives it a horrible ending with even a little smug moral lesson in the form of that mother on the truck. It wasn't for me.

The ambiguous book ending would have been the perfect ending for the film.

The tacked on "shocking" ending wasn't for me either. Thought it was gimmicky and stuck in there simply to try and get a cheap shock from people.

Totally agree.

Watching as a parent I should have found that final scene rather harrowing. Instead it seemed ridiculous - we laughed at how daft it was! I wouldn't even remotely consider shooting my own children until I'd ruled out any other means of escape (siphoning petrol earlier on from a nearby car as an example).

I really wanted to like it and it had so much going for it.

I missed why all the creatures were horrific man-eaters, was there a reason for this?

Yeah, searching for
another car in all that mist with creatures all over... I can't remember seeing a car near them in the final scenes.
There was even a
weird creature spiders nest not far from their car
.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

I found The Mist absolutely cringeworthy. What a ridiculous storyline! I found it commendable that I actually managed to sit through this pile of tosh.

I really enjoyed this. The atmosphere/factions in the supermarket were spot on as were the creatures. Not seen the b&w version. I'd guess that it would suit the special effects and add to the b-movie style.

Do you honestly think its believeable of the characters
that they run out of petrol and 5 minutes, yes 5 minutes he shoots his kid??

It just doesnt make any sense at all considering they just fought so hard for their survival, driven for miles without any harm coming to them, the ending was forced to get the reaction its got from so many people thinking its amazing that a film ended badly for them.
