The Mentalist (Merged)

Yeah, it was a fun episode which as you say we needed after last week. Although Lisbon was very grumpy, understably I suppose. Loved the pweugh bit - very funny. And the bit at the end where Jane teases Grace & Rigsby - he's such a little b_gger :D.

A big 24 four fan but being in Mentalist/Guardian mode Lulu's dad was the first thought to pop into mind. :D

Will always think of him as the guy from L.A Confidential though :D

edit for speeling misteaks :o

Hey! "The Mentalist" happens to be the most popular new drama series in the past 5 years in the USA, so "rubbish" it certainly ain't!

I enjoyed it a lot, though admittedly wasn't blown away, but pilots are always a little "off" so I think I'm in for the long haul... 2 things I was impressed with:

1) they didn't mercilessly hammer home every single clue that Jane spotted - they kind of did it when there was that micro-flashback of Jane picking the killer's pocket to get his passkey, but lots of other shows would have had dozens of those, and I'm glad we viewers were credited with a little common sense.

2) the dinner table scene with Jane definitively stating there is no afterlife - yes, they have the vaguely Christian member of the team to balance him out, but that's still a risky thing for a mainstream US show.

Yes, but a very cute one :D

Looks like I'm going to have to watch at 5OD too - switched on to watch Five USA and someone obviously forgot to press the start button, because all I was getting was the "Five USA" logo for the first ten minutes of the show. Now it's the adverts, so if Mentalist starts after the aRAB, I suspect it will be 10 minutes into the show:mad::mad:

Edit: WTF:confused: Some programme about cars now:confused:

Edit 2: Now showing "Whose Line is it anyway?" with no explanation:(.........

*switches off TV in disgust*

Can I just say that that was the worst season finale I have ever seen. It didn't feel like a finale, or even a red john episode. The end was just silly. Red john should have killed Jane so why didn't he (she?) unless it was another imposter.

For anyone interested, there's a video on YouTube which claims to reveal te identity of red john, based on that last ep. I'm not so sure. Sorry can't link right now.

Yes the knowing look. In last nights when Jane was walking around the boat at the beginning they may as well have just put an alarm going 'beep beep thought process in action beep beep'

I think the reason this has done so well in the states shows in this thread. Some people like it, some people are ambivilent to it but there doesn't seem to be many who outright hate it. That is the key to mainstream american TV success - safe episodic middle-of-the-road entertainment. CSI has mined this for years

That sums up what I thought - I can't see why it's "taken America by storm" it's good, but not that good. I've been spoilt by all the CSIs with the evidence leading us to the culprit rather than intuition.
