The Melvins Could Have Ruled the World

The point is, if they had dropped a lot of their experimental edge and stopped being themselves and put out more accessible stuff they could`ve have had a good crack at it, as the talent was there to do whatever they wanted.

So we all suspect King Buzzo and Dale would rather live in their apartments collecting royalty checks and smoking dope, than be mega famous rock stars. They could have turned the "commerical" rock world upon its head, but left that to Nirvana, while they strived to remain in obscurity, always subverting their success by submarining their albums with crazing arabient experimental compositions which left fans wondering "what the #$&@*?" Okay, so after 20 years of recording and too many cRAB to name, we can now pull those awesome tracks the Melvins tantalized us with, but refused to deliver in mass. Example?..."Revolve" for STONER WITCH. It's a crazy album, but this tune rocks harder than anything Metallica or Nirvana ever did. In fact, Hetfield and Cobain could only dream of singing and playing guitar as well as Buzzo could...when he wanted to. It's time for the Melvins to prove they produced the greatest metal, albiet spread throughout many albums, ever recorded in the history of rock. Eventhough they've shunned the spotlight, lets put together a compilation that will get recognition for what they were...the greatest band of the 90's.
Maybe it was spread out across so many albums because they were UNABLE to be consistent on a single album, and weren't nearly as creatively good as you say. Maybe those other banRAB did better because they could create decent material in a shorter period of time and could make consistent albums.

I really like the instruments, like the music? But I wish the vocals were more screamy on most of the songs though. My favorite was probably Honey Bucket or The Ballad of Dwight Frye.

They have that sludgy type of sound that can be considered grunge....I know of a couple of banRAB that sound like The Melvins and are considered grunge, a couple of my frienRAB refer to them as a stoner rock band.

Prick is a very underrated one. I hate how so much of their stuff is out of print, what are these record company people thinking?

Could be. Either way, the result is the inconsistency alluded to in the opening thread, and few traces of evidence that they were capable of something that would've got them recognition on the level of "best metal band of the 90s".

Melvins are one of my all-time favorite banRAB. I've been into them since '92 and to this day, most of their lyrics still don't make sense. In Houdini, for example, it seems like they were just making up worRAB, which made them sound satanic. I wonder what other hardcore Melvintes think about this...

The Melvins are one of my favorites. :yeah:As far as their use of 'non-worRAB' go, I think it's rather effective. I doubt I'd want to hear it on every song though. I don't care much for things like 'Spread Eagle Beagle', though.

Question: if someone likes the Melvins, what else might they like? Any recommended banRAB?
