The Melvins Could Have Ruled the World

Yeah I've heard both Stag and Lysol, I like Lysol especially.

Haven't really been able to get into Bullhead, but (A) Senile Animal is probably my favorite.

which melvins album has the kiss cover of "going blind" or something?
i think i'd like to start off with that, a little more straightforward then the other stuff i tried checking out.

Check out A Senile Animal because they'll play a lot of stuff off it.

Plus, just go because they have two drummers and it's an absolutely mind-blowing experience.

So we all suspect King Buzzo and Dale would rather live in their apartments collecting royalty checks and smoking dope, than be mega famous rock stars. They could have turned the "commerical" rock world upon its head, but left that to Nirvana, while they strived to remain in obscurity, always subverting their success by submarining their albums with crazing arabient experimental compositions which left fans wondering "what the #$&@*?" Okay, so after 20 years of recording and too many cRAB to name, we can now pull those awesome tracks the Melvins tantalized us with, but refused to deliver in mass. Example?..."Revolve" for STONER WITCH. It's a crazy album, but this tune rocks harder than anything Metallica or Nirvana ever did. In fact, Hetfield and Cobain could only dream of singing and playing guitar as well as Buzzo could...when he wanted to. It's time for the Melvins to prove they produced the greatest metal, albiet spread throughout many albums, ever recorded in the history of rock. Eventhough they've shunned the spotlight, lets put together a compilation that will get recognition for what they were...the greatest band of the 90's.

I like the Melvins but theres no way their music could have ever catapulted them to rule the world status.

They really just have a few tracks that appeal to me, Civilized Worm, A History of Bad Men, and The Kicking Machine. Probably in that order as well.

What Melvins album should I start with? I'm interested to hear.

Actually, Merkaba which one do you think i'd like best? 'cause i KNOW he'll look at this thread.

The Melvins could very easily have ruled the world. One of the first banRAB with a "Grunge" sound. Altering their music a little bit could have made them the Grunge posterboys instead of Nirvana, but The Melvins aren't like that.

Yeah they're often credited as grunge, I hate to call them that though because they're so much better than that. I just refer to them as alternative something. For a band that started off in Hardcore Punk ( I mean lets be honest, Crover wipes the floor with Grohl), moved on over to a sound very similar to Crust Punk, has done sounRAB that some band like something Electric Wizard would be proud of, made some very grungey music, dabbled in stoner and now they're at a fairly Punk Metal stage with (a) Senile Animal. Grunge wishes it could have the Melvins.

Start with Houdini so you get the sound they bring to the table first than you might like Bullhead and from there you should have a good base to go and see all they've done.

Lol, yeah that's what I read on their last.fm page. I saw the video Merkaba posted and I quite like it. Methinks Imma gonna go...not like I have anything better to do...:-/ ;)
