Personally, I think it was because it was the first televised war and families were seeing their children, brothers, fathers, etc. killed on the news. It was disgusting and I have always felt it is wrong to have the media in the middle of the soldiers while they are trying to fight for their lives. The media can be very biased and they show what will get the best ratings. They rarely or never showed the child with hand grenades strapped to his hands or a woman who looked pregnant & innocent asking for help then pull out explosives and kill herself and an entire platoon of soldiers. War is not pretty or fair. It is kill or be killed and split second decisions. Having a camera guy & a reporter in the way is a danger & a distraction to the soldiers. I was in Iraq and not only do you have to protect your own platoon but worry about news people running out in front trying to get good pictures and blowing your cover or risking your life to save theirs. No family should ever have to see their son, daughter, brother, father, etc. getting blown up or laying dead in a combat zone on the news. The media made our soldiers out to be vicious killers of innocent people which was not true. That's why so many Viet Nam Vets suffered so severly when they came back to the USA. Can you imagine coming home after that and being spit on or called names? Real life war is not for the television viewing audience. Then you have idiots like Geraldo Rivera who gave their exact location on CNN and told our enemies what our next moves were going to be. That's why no media should be allowed in combat zones.
