Of course… this is based off of the musical knowledge of someone who’s only really been listening to good music for a couple years now, I missed the majority of the 00s the first time through. I like Jackhammer's idea too, that might work better.

I still think that people are thinking about this way too much. I agree there has to be certain rules in place, whatever these rules are but ultimately this CAN just be a bit of a fun, you know?

Fine, if 3 or so Radiohead albums get put forward then either all 3 of them stay because we just recognise that we gave everyone the opportunity to nominate their favourite record and accept that or its opened up to the rest of the community to vote on which of the 3 is their favourite and therefore rab's favourite, that one stays and the other 2 spots are then opened up again.

I still think everyone should have a say. When all 50 (and IF all 50) ever get nominated then maybe we can all decide if theres a cut off. Maybe we might want to re-think albums nominated by those with very few posts, for example.

I think the way were doing it is fine though, just as i say once all 50 are in there may be a few things we want to change about it before going any further. As it stanRAB its not gonna matter anyway because were not gonna enough nominations and the more senior merabers of this site dont seem interested in participating which really hurts this idea.

Oh and music_phantom, i dont know what you think i mean by senior meraber but you count! I, of course, was thinking of some other, specific merabers who it would be nice to see contribute but you more than deserve a vote!

24. The Gutter Twins- Saturnalia (2008)

Agreed. I like this idea the best as it's simple and involves the entire rab community. I'd like for a list of albums to be posted on the front page though to keep track- so whoever started the thread... it'd be cool if that was done.

5) The Book Of Knots - Traineater (2006)

Decent list u like alot of Rock music dontcha stuff i never heard of before that i like YAY !!!!

Minsk
My Vitriol
Ramesses
Richard Ashcroft
Stinking Lizaveta

Actually, your old idea is starting to look REALLY good right now. After all, there are some people here that have demonstrated a fair amount of knowledge an experience in various genres, including stuff from these last ten years, like Zarko for jazz, Jackhammer for reggae/metal, Urban for anything, Terrible Lizard for blues/weird shit, etc.

Mojo: The current thread could be completed before anything's decided, but I really do think that 10-15 or so specifically diverse people each picking one or two albums for a big list will probably turn out more interesting than 50 random peeps posting up whatever they happen to feel like based on...how they feel.

PS: I don't think post count should be a criteria for whether or not the person has a vote either. :P

You know, ive completely missed that post. I just went back and found it. The mix of the two ideas sounRAB good and fair to me. My bad for missing that and therefore misunderstanding exactly what it was you were getting at over the last page.

Yes, i think that works.

Being new here, I know my opinion probably is not nearly as important to someone who has devoted mass amounts of time to making this place active, but I would still like to offer some my input on this discussion.

Would a single poll with 50 options be an actual legit way to show what the forums 50 favorite albums are? For example, lets say that there is an album that many love, but everyone who likes this album, or most at least, loves a similar album that is on the poll, a little bit more. This first album, gets almost no votes, while albums liked be less people who have different tastes get far more votes. Not sure how you were gonna do the poll exactly, but allowing posters to multi vote, pic more than one option, and allowing them to select every album in the poll that they enjoy listening to and think is worthy for a top 50. This way any album will get the vote that it deserves without stealing votes from other albums. I think it would be the best way for a forums overall taste to be truly represented.

Just a thought.

Theres a thread about Stinking Lizaveta here http://www.rabroad.com/avant-garde-experimental/29245-stinking-lizaveta.html. Ramesses are a doom metal band formed by ex merabers of Electric Wizard, if you're familiar with them at all. My Vitriol are kind of a shoegaze band, they haven't released much but Finelines is a great record. Minsk are, in essence, a doom metal band with a touch of post-rock about them and Richard Ashcroft was the frontman of The Verve and his solo career may have not have exactly been fantastic or groundbreaking but i still like his first album.

As i said alot of the albums in my list are not necessarily albums i still listen to now or albums that i have even listened to in some time but this decade has been the decade i've grown up in, music wise at least, so theres some albums in my list that i felt had to be there anyway.

This is sounding like the HOF thread all over again.

Heres a novel idea. However we organise the polling of this thread, how about we let everyone have a say, however popular or unpopular their opinions may be with others and do it fairly for a bit of fun instead of over analysing the hell out of it.

This would be the Music Banter list of the 00's therefore everyone should have a say. Or at least merabers with a set amount of posts if we are gonna limit the contributors in some way. If your album doesnt make the cut, thats only because theres more merabers who prefer something else over yours.

interesting, i'm not even sure I have 50 albums from this decade, will have to check RYM... lots of names from the past cropping up here, some great albums, couldn't possibly talk about all of them so kudos on BRMC, that still plays extremely well and now i am gutted that i left the CD at home =/ I think watching them tour that album, clouded by smoke and continuous strobing, is one of my favourite memories of a live band. What's this with 'Veni Vidi Vicious'? Didn't you just get 'Your New Favourite Band' like the rest of us?
