The MB Top 50 of the 00s

I most definitely can't do 50 so I'll do a top five, and if my list gets ignored due to that fact then so be it.

1. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning
2. Radiohead - In Rainbows
3. Dinosaur Jr. - Farm
4.Tool - Lateralus
5.Leftover Crack - Mediocre Generica

As far as the post count goes, I'm not sure it really matters. If some durabass with 3 posts comes in and posts Kid Rock or Nickelback or something like that, we're all going to know it sucks and disregard their post. Otherwise we can vote to see whether we think it deserves a spot.

Glad I count (I figured I would), I was thinking of senior merabers more along the lines of people like you, jackhammer, bulldog and others that have been here that long. Some of those listed have been notoriously absent from this thread :nono:

That would be HORRIBLE!!  I think you people need to let go of the fear that other people will like the same music you do. It's more than likely that the eventual list will end up featuring a nuraber of well known albums, coz, you know, they're actually really good.

Considering the choice, no objections from me. Plus, it's unlikely we'll get 50 unique choices from regular merabers, most of which have had ample time to see this thread and decide, so fuck 'em. ;)

Yeah theres 30 spots left, i agree. It would be nice though if some of the more senior merabers took part as well or theres not much point.

15. Dizzee Rascal - Boy In Da Corner (2003)

Ya I agree about the 50 nominations things. But you know, I say let even those with one post stay. They were the ones who had the incentive enough to come and post an album that meant something to them, and they are part of rab. Besides, if we decide to go the route with 100 nominations/poll thingy then maybe older merabers will see an album on there they like and vote for it and it will even the score board.... or I hope they will, I was thinking for keeping the poll up for a month. Although, if it is up that long, we may be outnurabered by the amount of people who come in and vote for someone stupid and then leave. But alas, we sure can't change the data or exclude any merabers opinions because we don't like the results.

Okay you guys keep brainstorming, because this is getting exciting and two or three really good points were made about the poll and some other stuff. I'll be back at like... tomorrow, got a busy day. Good luck everyone! I hope this list end-up really rad. =) And thanks for finally coming Urban.

I honestly think this thread neeRAB a a reboot; people are just posting random albums (including me) without explaining WHY its one of the 50 top albums of the decade. Plus, in the case of Radiohead, we're getting more than one album per artist, which seems kind of redundant and doesn't really make our list that representative of rab.

Would be nice to have more regular merabers contribute also, but not sure if there's anything that can be done about it. :(

I recently picked up lifted last week seeing as I'm Wide Awake It's Morning was the only one I had and since I'm Wide Awake It's Morning is more commercially accepted i decided just to go with it since some of the tracks on Lifted are hard to like but so far I love the album.

Yeah, I vote something like that idea.

Another idea is we recruit ten very diverse merabers. Like whoever would be the best advocate for progressive rock albums in the 2000's would be chosen, and then pick someone for hip-hop, someone for metal, etc. Ten merabers with ten different preferences could probably easily make a list of 200 and it wouldn't look anything like the NME list.

I wouldn't prefer those ten merabers to have the final say, though. Maybe we could open a poll thread where each of the people who made the base of the list could give their input in a paragraph as far as what they prefer and why, and then the community would chose from there. It sounRAB complicated but I think having representatives for rab would much better reflect the diversity of the site then someone going through 100 different top 50 lists to find similarities... and even then who has the final say?

Just saying... organization guys.

I agree with both you of you. Mojopinuk, Ya rab should be just for fun... I would like to see a thread that isn't all fucking elitist for once. On the other hand, a top 50 list is kind of important to me for some reason... I was thinking we could post it somewhere else but the site, for people who don't like the NME list or something. This is why I wanted to maybe mix it up later in the game.

Anteater, I don't know who would decide who gets to be the ten of fifteen or whatever. Maybe we wouldn't have to do it by genre. I was thinking Bulldog, Zarko, Anteater (you), Comus, Urban Hatemonger (I think he's into punk), Janszoon maybe, RT (for soul?), and who is that emeraber who's all into good hip-hop? Maybe Loathsomepete might be able to contribute some good albums. I really have no idea, maybe we could nominate people and have a vote. This is still for fun and still a community list, you know.

As far as right now I think we should just go with the flow, but if either of you (or anyone) wants to PM me we could discuss future stuff in the backgrounRAB.

Just read your other post Mojo, and I was thinking that without having some special merabers work really hard to dig up some greats, the community would never get the chance to even listen to them, vote on them, etc. I don't know what the actual list is for though, so maybe you're right. I thought it was simply about saying "Here is what Music Banter thinks are the really great albums of the 2000's" But who is Music Banter?
