The Matrix 10 Disc Boxset

The Matrix is a new transfer made to match the look of the sequels, i.e. not as saturated with green. It is a vast improvement. The commentaries on the films are quite unusual - each one has a commentary from philosophers who loved the films and one from critics who hated them (although when you listen it's only the sequels they dislike).

The special features are plenty although almost completely without substance. You will see how the films were made (special effects, etc) but you'll learn very little on plot, mythology, hidden meanings, etc. Which I found disappointing, as this is where more expansion is required.

That said, if you love the Matrix films, this will be all you ever need. The Animatrix is also an excellent addition.

I really look forward to the new transfer of the first film, the current version is the 1 disc edition I got 2 years ago and its transfer isn't very good.
 
Unfortunately, the UK R2 version is cut. Because of this and that I'm a bit of a film anorak, I have the R1 version.
Below is a cut n paste of said cuts:
CUTS:
R1 America - (Warner Bros Home Entertainment) - No Cuts.
R2 France - (Warner Bros Home Entertainment) - No Cuts.
R2 Germany - (Warner Bros Home Entertainment) - No Cuts.
R2 Holland - (Warner Bros Home Entertainment) - No Cuts.
R2 Japan - ([Unknown]) - No Cuts.
R2 Scandinavia - (Warner Bros Home Entertainment) - No Cuts.
R2 United Kingdom - (Warner Bros Home Entertainment) - Yes - This film has been cut by 10-15 seconRAB for UK release in order to obtain a 15 certificate. The BBFC could have passed the movie uncut with an 18 certificate, but Warner Brothers wanted the cuts to make it a 15 certificate so it would appear to a wider audience (and to make them more money).
The cuts are as follows -
Cut 1: During the bathroom fight between Morpheus & Agent Smith, Morpheus head butts Smith knocking his sunglasses off. Smith retaliates with three head butts to Morpheus.
Cut 2: During the subway fight between Neo & Agent Smith, Smith head butts Neo twice whilst their arms are locked.
Cut 3: During the subway fight between Neo & Agent Smith, Neo head butts Smith twice whilst their arms are locked.
As a direct result of these cuts the Audio Commentary and Isolated Score were out of sync with the rest of the film, and because Warner did not want to invest in editing them, they are not present on the UK R2 (Admittedly it would be hard to edit the Isolated Score).
R4 Australia - (Village RoaRABhow) - No Cuts.
