The Libertines/Babyshambles/Dirty Pretty Things Official Thread

So I've got The Libertines-Up The Bracket, their self titles album and Dirty Pretty Things' debut album. So I guess you could say I'm a big fan.

In my opinion, Up The Bracket is by far the best Libertines album. Although their second album was good, it is way too overrated and overshadows their phenomenal debut.

The Dirty Pretty Things album is good, and definitely goes back to the UTB new-wave Punk roots. Barat is the true talent behind The Libertines. Forget Doherty.

Up The Bracket is one of my favourite albums ever. It gets grows on you more and more and it just gets better and better. I personally really like Pete's vocals on that album (although now he sounRAB like he's trying to go reggae, not a good move) , i love the way the songs sound like they've been taken in one take, and i love the way there seems to be so much more passion than other banRAB.

The second album is brilliant but its more overproduced than the debut, it loses some of its charm. Still awesome though.

'Down In Albion' i'm torn with. I can SEE how it could be a brilliant album, but it isn't, mostly because theres too many songs and i think the songs are bit overdone. Its best to search the internet and find earlier versions of the songs, i've got versions of 'Sticks and Stones' and 'Merry-Go Round' which are awesome.

Same with Dirty Pretty Things, good songs but the production doesn't help them at all. They're really great live though.

Personally i think Carl and Pete aren't anywhere as good without each other.

Pete's vocals are better-they have more of a charm to them and are grittier than Carl's. I meant that Carl is overall the better one. He is a better musician, he is heavily focussed on the music and when Pete was allowed to take the reigns more on the second album it all went downhill. Plus, from what I've heard, DPT are better than Babysharables. Up The Bracket is very much Barat's album, while The Libertines is Doherty's...

Bumped.

I'm going to see DPT on Noveraber 26th at the Academy. Travelling back from Manchester to see them.

And hopefully in 2 weeks I'll be seeing Babysharables... my mates have cancelled on me but I'm hoping some other mates will go instead. *Fingers crossed*

Its hard to tell, since theres so much speculation on who wrote the Libertine's songs, they say Doherty/Barat but Pete says he wrote a load of them himself. I wouldn't rush to believe him, but still...

Carls definitely more focused, and easily a better musician technically, but DPT's stuff is also pretty generic, 'Down In Albion' has its own style.

Saw them a while back, the sweatiest, most cramped, most painful gig i can remeraber.... thus one of the more enjoyable. Can't be arsed to go see them again though.

And after having Babysharables cancel on me 3 times in a row, i won't be seeing them either.

Yeah I'm worried Pete will be in a clinic or something... I'm coming to prefer Babysharables now, mainly cos they're a bit less 'recognisable' than DPT if you know what I mean.

They make a lot of different stuff, even though a lot of it is hit and miss. I bought the album while I was on holiday but have only really started getting into it. It's maybe a little too poetic for it's own good and sometimes Pete gets in way over his head, but it's still a nice alternative to Libertines.

the picture attached is a photo taken of doherty last night when i saw babysharables at the rhythm factory. People slate him for drug use, but the media is a very ugly industry that twists and sensationalizes. Stupid. mindless fools absorb it all. Last night he was very professional, very polite and generally very nice. And his presence and the charisma he radiates is pretty special. the band were immense btw.

I've always preferred doherty to barat. barat has always to me represented the safer, measured side of the libertines and thats not why i got into them at all. Doherty has alot more natural creativity whereas barat held it together with his focus.

I think because I'm such a bit Libertines fan I was glad that DPT's album was basically The Libertines of old. It didn't do anything new, which was slightly disappointing, but it had the whole 'Up The Bracket Part 2' vibe about it that some hated but I loved.

i love how doherty gets flamed yet theres so many more drug users in music that dont. People loved kurt cobain, whys that? just curious.

Yeah but the majority of them were known for their music first and the drugs second, unlike Doherty who seems to be a professional drug addict with a band on the side.
He hasn`t written anything that'll be worth looking back on in years to come.

I like Dirty Pretty Things a lot.
Their sound is pretty much the same as when they were the Libertines although now they're one meraber less.
At any rate I like their songs Dirty Little bastard and Bang Bang Your Dead a lot.
