The lessons life has taught me

1.) You can only depend on yourself.

When it comes right down to it, no matter how many friends you have, no matter how close you are to your family, you are ultimately alone. You can only truly count on yourself. Others tend to put their own needs above yours, and if it inconveniences them to be someone you can fall back on, they won't be there for you.

2.) You can only trust yourself.

Greed knows no boundaries. People who call themselves your "friends" will, under the right circumstances, take advantage of any kindness or generosity you show. They will feed upon you until you're completely sucked dry, then move on to someone else.

3.) Nobody cares.

The only person who cares about you is YOU. This kinda goes along with number one. If you mope around expecting people to feel sorry for you, you're not going to get far in life. The only chance you have at becoming anything is overcoming your self-pity and doing whatever it takes to achieve your goals.

4.) Nice guys finish last.

Being a kind, caring individual may give you strength of character, but it often means you won't be taken seriously by some and will be taken advantage of by others. Be kind, but be assertive. Let others know that there are limits to your kindness and generosity.

5.) Stress is a quick way to put you in the ground.

Don't let yourself become so overwhelmed by the things in your life that you don't have time to enjoy anything anymore. This will only lead to self-destruction.

6.) If you never ask a girl out you'll never be her boyfriend.

If you like someone, go for it. It's better knowing than wondering for the rest of your life. I only wish I had the balls to follow this advice myself.

7.) Just when you think you've hit bottom, God hands you a shovel.

I've learned that no matter what happens, it can ALWAYS get worse in a heartbeat. Count your blessings.

8.) Money is afraid of your bank account.

It flows out a hell of a lot faster than it flows in.

9.) Sometimes you just have to laugh.

There are times when you're so stressed, when the situation is so horribly unbearable, that you just have to laugh to keep from going insane.

Feel free to add yours.

Well I really cant disagree with much of it but I still think that it's all about luck. Regarding the first one, it counts on what kind of friends and family you have. I know for myself that I would do almost anything for my friends, and yes you believe me a liar but I fall into the category of Nice guys finishing last. Of course I may be a nice guy but I realized early on that might a problem so I purposely made another side to my personailty, a very violent and strong side and it seems to allow me to end up with good things even though I am a nice guy most of the time. Nice guys can have good lives if they are smart is the way I see it.

Cops can tell you anything they want to get you to incriminate yourself.

Break fluid and chlorine tablets make a fire that can't be put out with water.

Sometimes "Brace for landing!!" and "You're going to kill us!!" are heard in a truck.

Fireflies don't live long.

Sunsets are always there, people just forget about them.

In Texas you must give a verbal warning and fire a warning shot before you shoot someone on private property.

Never put dish soap in the dishwasher.

Sometimes old friends you havn't talked to in a long time can be the best ones you have.

To ferangi, I agree with those for the most part. I have had exceptions to some of the rules, but exceptions only prove the rule. I've had a better life when I've come to grips with those rules.

#1 #2 #3 don't apply to my best bud or my wife so I guess I'm lucky.

Let me add these:

Just because everyone else is an asshole, doesn't mean you have to be.

You decide what's right and wrong for you, but you gotta be willing to live with the consequences of your actions.

While killing people who seem to deserve it seems like a good idea sometimes, it will only complicate your life even futher.

On rare occasions you are right, and the whole world is wrong.

10.) Fuck It
No matter how hard you try life progresses at a sometimes too fast, sometimes too slow pace. You can't keep friends you've lost, and you can't gain some you want to. As you continue you just got to at some point when you feel low just say to yourself "fuck it". Because our short lives ain't worth nothing. We can hope to at some point immortalize ourselves in history, but beyond that fuck it, cause unless there is a heaven or hell we are fucked anyway. Even with those we could be fucked, or in some cases damned.

Indeed.

Seldom in my life have these 10 points been more relevant. Perhaps unfortunate but that is the way things are.

Point 10 is good. If you fail in someone's eyes, seldom will you be able to rise back up again.
