The Legend of Zelda: The complete Series Talkback

Everyone remembers watching the Super Mario Bros. Super Show during the weekdays and seeing scenes for Friday's Zelda episode, and now the entire series is available on DVD. As mostly everyone knows, the story revolves around the adventures of Princess Zelda and her Triforce's heroic protector Link, who's cocky ways and knack for distraction sometimes helps their nemesis Ganon come close to getting Zelda's Triforce, silly Link!

Episode count is 13 and since the show was segment within a half hour program they are short, roughly 12 minutes each, but they are very entertaining and fly by. Episodes range from action packed and heroic to funny and more character based, but there is no "bad" episode in the series. Unfortunatly the bonus material is weak, real weak. The boxed set features an unneeded trivia game, some bonus material from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, a weird match game and some character sketches, none of which adds to the pleasure of owning this set. Some complain about there being no Super Show lead in's before episodes, but I personally prefer it as it is in this collection. The audio/video quality is standard, nothing special at all, it does not appear to be remasterd but it is far from watching old VHS tapes, quality is fine even though I have heard complaints from hardcore fans.

The packaging is nice, you get a slipcover with a fold out DVD case with Zeldaish artwork on the packaging and the discs, but none of the artwork is from the show, it is all original and not very good at all. All in all the packaging is nice.

My overall grade on this set is a good one due to the fact that while everything was not done perfect, it was done good enough to warrant a purchase for those looking to give it a try as well as those who love the series, but if your hardcore into audio/video quality and bonus material you may want to borrow it from a friend first.

The Legend of Zelda - 8.75/10

FYI, if you hit Toys*R*Us's Bargain Bins, you can get the complete series on 3 discs for 5.99 each from when DIC released this a few years back. But the downside is that each disc plays like a movie, so for every 4 episodes (5 on the third disc), you only get one set of opening/closing credits.

Yes, it ran from around 1989 to 1990 every friday as a part of the Super Mario Brothers Super Show. It was a great cartoon, check it out!

I bought the boxset a few months back and it was fun seeing all of these episodes together

I wish they were able to add more of the live action segments on the set, probably the full episode for each Zelda cartoon

I am kinda glad they didn't add the live action stuff from the Mario Brothers show, it gives the set a feel of it's own. But some people wish the set had that stuff, Thats always one of the biggest complaints I hear when reading reviews on it.

Personally, I wish they would've added those missing segments (or at least whichever ones they could) as special features on the Mario sets...
