the last few days i've been having sharp knee pain when going upstairs and bending

my knee that comes goes? the pain is bad at times to the point i cant walk up the stairs or bend my knee, any ideas what this could be?
i'm going to my orthopedic tomm, last year i injuried the same knee and was told i had a ball of blood under my knee cap that was suppose to heal on it's own.
