The Lamest Jokes In Animation

Agreed. Only Bullwinkle and Rocky could pull off puns like that. Though I will say, some of the banter between the 2 commentators in Ultimate Muscle was hillarious. plus the Pun names they gave some of the characters harkens back (to me at least) to the name "Terri-bull" from the Americanized M.U.S.C.L.E. line. I'm surprised they didn't name Buffaloman Terri-bull as a tribute to that toy line. Maybe because they didn't want to have to pay Mattel to name the character that.

Seconded. Which brings me to...\

Yeah. One person in particular is pretty much doing that, but I suggest we move on.

yes, but that's more of a sitcom type thing than an animation thing. Both times when it was mocked, FG and Freak, it was used in a sitcom context.

Here's my post from yesterday; one of the few relevant ones:

I vote for 'no matter what happens, don't give me (insert item here)'/'please, I need (insert item here)!' 'no, no, you said not to give it to you'.

As far as I'm concerned, this gag has worked a grand total of twice: Young Frankenstein ("Let me out. Get me the hell out of here.") (not a cartoon, I know, but give me a break) and the "Rugrats" episode "No More Cookies".

I just know I'm going to feel so stupid when I find this out, but I don't get this. 'Lega-she'/'Lega-we'. Whuh?!

"Lega-she" is a bad pun on the word "legacy". Opal (parody of Oprah) said it on her show, and Marge said a variant of it at the end when she made up with Homer.

(For the record, the episode this offending line came from was "Ice Cream of Margie (With the Light Blue Hair)")

Ned's puns don't bother me that much because they're in character and not meant to be gut-bustingly funny jokes. My favorite is 'I've got a Fozzy of a bear of a problem.'

They only annoy me when used in a string. Just like 4Kids stuff, which has only grown in trend in recent years.

what?

Does Mattel still own the rights to M.U.S.C.L.E.? I'm still amazed they didn't try to get the original Kinnikuman cartoon licensed for broadcast in the U.S. in the 80's.

Off topic, but if you've actually seen it, you'd know why they didn't license it. I'm more surprised they didn't make their own version.

Back on Topic, since they are jokes, and I ironically like them, did you notice that ever since Bebop and Rocksteady, every single cartoon villain has to have 2 stupid henchmen? Cyberchase has Buzz and Delete, Captain N had King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard... even Disney poached the idea with Pain and Panic in Hercules. Not saying it's the lamest, but after a while it really loses it's edge. Someone has to parody this one. Someone has to. it's overdone.

But I still think the lamest joke is from TMNT 80's... the "Return of the Fly" episode where Shredder to Krang-

Shredder: With one of the greatest scientific minds in my control, the world will be my oyster!

Krang: I prefer my seafood without flies.

wha?!?!?

Was that supposed to be funny? Sounds like someone wrote a line in to stretch time 3 minutes before the deadline after staying up all night.

Show of hands... who likes seafood with files?

That didn't start with Bebop and Rocksteady. Weren't there two stupid henchmen on Thundercats?

What's there not to get? Shredder referenced seafood and Baxter Stockman was an annoying fly. Hence Krang's comment.

What TMNT had a lot of was bad puns. I got back into the show about two weeks ago and have been slowly making my way through all the seasons that are available on DVD. It's actually sort of a self-inflicted torture on my part. LOL

How 'bout the so called gay overtones twixt Rocko and gas balloon Heffer (And at one point, Filburt)? Then there's that outlawed scene twixt Heffer and that milking machine. And the Wolfe family and their boving eating scene and when they "feed" their Garmps, Hiram (UGH!!) Not to mention all those toilets.

I think there's one that nobody says, it's a joke where the character gets mistreated just for laughs. It's not funny, in fact it's painful to watch. The Proud Family and Catdog are guilty for this.

I don't think that's really potty humour though, except for the toilet part. Sexual innuendos maybe, but quite poo-poo/pee-pee jokes. Also, seems like someone just learned a new word -- 'twixt'.

I personally believe that the lamest jokes are those that force the characters to have an out-of-character moment. For example, an episode of “Brandy & Mr. Whiskers” entitled “Freaky Tuesday” had the title characters “switch” roles, even though all they really did was change outfits. Despite the fact that it was obvious who they were, some of the more reasonable characters in the series were incapable of realizing the truth. This was despite the fact that Brandy Harrington had continuously attempted to convince them that she was Brandy Harrington, though they refused to believe her and were fully convinced she was Mr. Whiskers.

I realize that it was a parody of “Freaky Friday”, and that it was meant to be humorous, but that scene really frustrated me. It wasn’t funny and it was downright stupid.

I understand that this is a bit of a digression, but I wanted to contribute to this thread and it’s the closest thing I could think of.
